Russ,
We felt very bad for some of the people that we met at some of the Red Cross centers due to the fact they lost everything that the owned. We were washing/rinsing sun-up to sun down. We did not spend much time at all on any particular house it was more of a "blow and go" operation i.e. rinsing driveways/sidewalks off, rinsing houses and vehicles.
It's kind of weird but the fires going on down there today is almost exactly 4 years apart from when we were down there.
Here is a "hint" to some of you that are looking to expand a little in your services.
After we did this trip down south, I came back to our home base of operations and evaluated whether or not we could provide this service continuously to houses that unfortunately get in the way of blowing smoke/soot. Out here in Calif. we experience wildland fires to the extent that entire neighborhoods can easily get covered with "drift smoke" or soot. Well that soot/dirt needs to be cleaned and unfortunately insurance companies do not cover that in their policies. It is up to the home owner to get it clean. Out here we have been able to "package" entire neighborhoods for cleaning in the wake of these wildfires.
It is an unfortunate set of circumstances to see things like what is going on in S. Calif right now but at the end of the day folks appreciate and value companies that come in and assistance them to get them back on their feet.
I turned a particular washer on to this idea about 2-3 years ago back East. I understand they did quite well during some flooding in their area in which they washed alot of mud out for home owners.
An article ran in the newspaper about what we were doing which we thought was pretty cool. Newspaper article is attached.
