Calgary hood cleaning requirements

Phil has a Paid advertisment on the top of the page. Here is a copy paste of part of the page.

"Restaurant owners or operators have the right to ask the cleaning company to show you their qualification credentials. The information they should produce is:

1. A current City of Calgary business license, and
2. Certification from International Kitchen Equipment Cleaners Association (IKECA), or;
3. Certification from Pressure Washers of North America (PWNA), or;
4. Certification from Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of BC (ASTTBC), or;
5. Certification from Phil Ackland Kitchen Exhaust Training, or;

Companies performing the cleaning of your exhaust system may also carry an Alberta Fire Safety Association identification card that specifies they meet the qualifications of the Fire Code."

Well for those of you that want to know how long it is taking to catch the attention of the US AHJ's,we have two more Inspector's seminars planned the first week in December. This will be about the 6-8 this year. Recently I've been getting calls from vendors in the Macon GA region saying they are bidding Robbins AFB and they have to be certifide to bid the work and will be attending our school. After three short years of providing education to AHJ's all over North America, I can definitely see that the major players, Insurance Companies, Municipalites, Military, Casino's, YUM Brands and others are deifinitely starting to draw a line in the sand and with another 2-3 years alot will change. I feel that this want and need the AHJ's have is great for the average kitchen exhaust company becuase now quality education/certification is available and quality companies are readily available to the consumers. This thought process, from the major chains, was something that was not present 10 years ago and was one of the factors that helped evolve the "National Contracting Companies", (Facilitec, Commercial, SLM etc). The corpaorate view of the regualr hood cleaner is changing, it is up to the independent suppliers to get educated and proactive!

Have A Clean Day!

Are you saying that the rest of us will have to come up to the levels of Facilitec, Commercial, SLM etc. standards? Heaven forbid! Or am I reading too much into this?

Indiana,

I am sorry if my statement was confusing? What I ment to say was I think that those "Nationa Companies" will have fewer "National Accounts" because there will be more independents that will be able to market and sell themselves better in the future....the "National Accounts" will have more confidence in the independent comapnies again.

Matt, that duct is engineered to be exactly like that. The air swirls around the hangy-down things so the grease particles cling to the hangy-down things, thereby keeping the fan cleaner. This reduces the time and cost of cleaning the fan and hood. Guys like you remove the hangy-downs and reduce the effectiveness of the duct. However, I am working on a class to install hangy-downs. Because of your standing, I will give you a small discount on my class. Class instruction will include theory, identification and installation of hangy-downs. Please remit $6,000.00, in cash, no loose change please. You can be the first Certified Hangy-Down in the nation.

The reason you have not received your Certifiacate of Completion is that despite numerous requests from me, you still have not specified colored Fling Powder or Stainless Steel Fling Powder.Unfortunatly, you have delayed making a decision too long. The price has gone up an additional $1000.00. Please remit the balance due.

I need the money to develope my newest course, "How to fleece the unwitting". Certificates will be available in colors, please choose colors when ordering the course.

Canada always was a little backwards anyway. Hey do they drive on the Queens side of the road up there or the American side? :D

Gentlemen
I was in Calgary last week doing a 2-day Fire Inspectors Seminar with Inspector Sauve. I showed him your bbs comments. He tried to reply but for some reason is not being allowed access to "reply"??? He has a number of thoughts that he would like to share. He told me he would try to figure out why he wasn't getting on. I notice it hasn't happened yet.
From the conversations we had while in Calgary, I guarantee you will find it quite interesting.

Phil, he needs to hit the quick reply button first.
Alternatively, have him e-mail me and I will get him all set up.

Stan is registered, but no posts have been made.

Dear Doug
I gave that Vancouver WA notice a quick look and didn't see anything related to cleaning. It was all fire suppression and alarm. Did I miss something?
On Dave Olson's comment at the top of this thread: I notice he thinks I have a paid banner on Up Your Stack.com.
Just for the record, George gave me that for free because he respects what I am trying to do in getting information out to the greater world.
I'd like to express my appreciation to all you guys who are trying to elevate this field.
I continue to feel the only way you are going to get any respect is for the fire departments to realize the role you could play in fire safety. The problems, as you are aware, is the image of this exhaust cleaning field and the general lack of interest by the fire community.
We continue to try to create interest within the fire community, but it is an uphill battle.
I am open to realistic suggestions…
Also I am still trying to get Stan Sauve's information to you all.
