Road closed as firefighters battle 'suspicious' blaze at Cafe Pasta in Dongan Hills

Firefighters responded to an early-morning blaze at a Dongan Hills restaurant today, blocking traffic on Hylan Boulevard for close to a half hour.
The fire started at about 6:40 a.m. in the kitchen of Cafe Pasta Restaurant at 1400 Hylan Boulevard, near Reid Avenue. Firefighters worked inside the restaurant and atop the roof, bringing the blaze under control about 20 minutes later.
No one was inside the building when the fire started, according to FDNY Division 8 Deputy Chief James Leonard.
The cause of the blaze was not immediately known this morning, but initial reports labeled the fire as "suspicious."
