This bypass allows you to release the trigger without building up pressure inside the pump or was I watching another channel ?

Not exactly. The pump will relieve pressure in bypass, but the water heats every time it goes through the loop from inlet to discharge and back. After a few minutes, the temperature gets above the tolerance of internal pump parts, and things start breaking. Bypassing to the tank gives a much greater amount of water to heat to problem causing.

To avoid any problems with getting air in the system be sure to run the hose to the bottom of the tank. Or make sure when the water goes in it does not break the surface anywhere near your pickup.
