Ok last night everything was working fine.. Then all of a sudden the burner started surging .. it would lite and burner for a second the it would blow smoke then it would catch on again , then stop and blow smoke..I tried on the spot remedy's I checked the transformer and ignitors and cleaned them, I changed the fuel filter... I also bled the diesel pumpNo quick fix here I guess in the morning I will be pulling apart the burner and cleaning it...Also Iwill probably check the filter in the diesel pump itself... I dont guess the Solonoid Switch could cause this but hey you never know.. Wonder what to try first >>?

Here is what was wrong when that happened to me.

Mine did that before , it turned out to be a loose fitting......it was sucking in air also check your micro switch ,it could be loose or need cleaning

Hey Anthony I believe that could be the problem... I am going to check and see.. My diesel tank is like 6 years old and never been cleaned out, so I am going to take a look .. Thanks for the info... I also have dropped a couple of wooden paint stir sticks down in the diesel tank as well when I was using them as fuel measuring devices so that could have stopped everything up... On a good note at least it's the burner this time and not the actual engine.. I am going to look at the machine right now and see what it looks like..

Ok here we go I am fixing to go out a rip my burner apart now .. Since I have basically all day to do this I am going to video my experiences of ripping my machine apart.. I have 2 jobs Friday and 1 job Saturday and 1 Job Sunday and 2 Jobs Monday .. Then I am booked Tuesday thru Friday of next week so I got to get it running .. I think my biggest problem is that I have spent around 2000.00 this passed month on jobs and I have only got one check for 500.00 .. Still have 6100.00 out for this month. Damn I hate 30 day accounts..

Russ I wish that was it but I have been running the burner off of 110v extension cord.. I got to get a new generator and soon .. I am sort of waiting to decide if I want a new machine ( 6000.00 ) or buy an enclosed trailer for about 2000.00 and rebuild the whitco for about 1500.00... All new parts .. Only problem is I want to pay cash for this stuff .. No more credit please.. My plastic has burned a whoule in my pocket.. I think ant has a point .. I tried it again last night cleaning a grease trap and it did fine for a few minutes then it puffed a few times then white smoke everywhere Then I went and tapped on it and boom dark smoke everywhere.. I disconnected my new thermostat and safety heat sensor thing and still the same problem .. I think it needs a good cleaning ... I do not believe that anything on the burner has been changed out in like 6 years ecept for the transformer, blower fan, and diesel pump..

John, Beside from the obvious.
Got power, clean fuel, clean filter.

Several things it could be:
Electrodes out of wack, erratic spark. should be 1/8" apart at tip and 1/8" down from center. This is basic measurement, your machine may be different.
Air in fuel system, leaking connection.
Nozzle clogged.

When it fires up do you get a lot of smoke from raw fuel in the burner? That means the flow switch is working but electrode may be problem.

Pull burner out of coil and run it to see if electrode is sparking correctly and if spray nozzle is spraying correctly. This makes lots of fire so do it outside.

If you got any other questions call me. Maybe we can walk it thru together.

John,
Every now and then you need to turn your best horse out to pasture and start fresh with a green colt.
I would get a new machine. Based on your posts in the past about the same machine its probably time. JMO.

I think its going to work but check out the burner and electrodes this stuff is old

Maybe an air leak. Leaking fuel filter? Try pushing-pulling on the bowl and other lines and see if it seals and fires.

Pull the cover off of the side of the fuel pump too. There is a drum type screen in there that filters the fuel as well. If you have that much junk by your tip it can't look too good there either.

Here is a good question what will that suntec diesel pump pull .. If I bought a new external diesel tank and stopped using my on board rust filled tank Would the suntec diesel pump be able to lift the diesel up 21 inches to the pump or does it have to gravity feed to the pump ??

I had one of those completely plugged solid once, quite nasty.

It should pull it no problem I have dropped a 10' line down in my diesel tank in my truck before when i was in a pinch at a job. (thanks for filling the unit last on to use it)

Well I plugged it up and cranked it while I was playing with my vac surface cleaner idea and right off the bat my new flow switch sort of hung up because when I let of the wand the burner stayed on... Big scare... So I went and tapped on the flow switch a little and all's well.. Hey Russ remember me talking about the great deals on 2wb pressure washer hose, well I have used mine 200ft NM 3 times now and its leaking at the swivel end of the hose... Oh it just burns me up... Shouldnt there be like a 9 day warranty on Hose..I think I got it from pressure parts.com it is Legacy Hose..I guess I will have to go and get one of those bulky repair ends..
