Britenol on cedar shake?

We cleaned some cedar shake last week that was pretty weathered and had lots of black on it. Mike at Eaco Chem recommended I use some Britenol we had in stock. I found it to be ineffective at multiple applications 4 to 1 strength. As i was in a pickle I ended up using SH and low pressure to clean it. Home owner was happy but I didnt want to use the Sh. Anyone have any success with Britenol? We generally dont do wood but this customer was insistent. Any input for the future would be appreciated; other than dont do wood.

I Have always wondered about that, I use acid a bit. We do not have the mold and mildew issues that most do here in AZ.

From what your saying is that it does have and effect? Just not much

Acid is not as effective in removing weathered wood and mold as Bleach.

From the pics I sent Mike he said it was close to the worst shape he's seen cedar shake in. So I had a follow up conversation after the job and told him my process and he thinks the level of issue with the shake was more at a restorative level than what the Britenol could handle. I haven't used it before on wood and don't know much about wood so if you guys have any suggestions I am all ears! The Britenol didn't touch the shake visibly at all until I killed the mold. When I tested an area after bleaching it, with the Britenol I was thinking it would pull up and hold more of the original cedar color but it didn't have that affect either. I think a stain at the end would have kept it from looking so gray and weathered looking. I just wasn't happy with the end result. The customer was fortunately. I want to give the Britenol another shot. Any suggestions on applications? I'm sorry I can't get my pics off my phone to load for before and afters.

I could not say it more simply as above . There are cases where i do use acids in place of my regular wood juices for cleaning. If i think bleach may be an issue with furring a maintenance job up I may use a hydrochloric acid to penetrate and dissolve the mold. I takes too long but it will not fur up the wood .This is on jobs I've done before.
