I have someone that is wanting information on acid cleaning for mason work. He does multiple homes and wants us to clean them. I am somewhat familiar with house washing but not brick acid washing. Is it the same as regular house washing (spray on, rinse off) just with muratic acid?

I did my frist brick cleaning job this summer it wasn't as easy as that frist you have to remove the mortar tags useing a block of wood or brick i was told not to use muratic acid the brick company told me it could discolor the brick and mortar they suggested that i use sure kleen 600 (this was for red brick) they have other cleaners for diffrent color bricks i just can't remebber there names the bank i cleaned turned out very good it took twice as long to do than i would have liked.hope this helps

RLS I will call soon. I spoke with him today and we have a job set up for Thursday. I will clean one home just to make sure we are on the same page. He told me that he pays $ 15 - $ 20 per thousand bricks and his jobs range from 15,000 to 37,000. This first job is about 40 miles from my home (one way). He told me that he typically has 5-6 jobs in each area. I asked him if he wants muratic acid used and he told me he wants to see how I do it and that he does use muratic at 50:50. I have also been informed that muratic is not safe on all brick surfaces. As far as windows go, what measures do I take to ensure that no muratic acid gets on the glass. I asked him if he uses hot water and he told me he has a hot water pw but does not use it unless he has to.
What exactly will they be looking for, red clay removed, excess mortar removed what else?

Give Roger a call - we do new construction brick at least 3 days a week during the season......the best acid we have found (and RLS will back me up here :)) is NMD80 from EacoChem. It's not rocket science but there are some particulars you HAVE to know about in order not to burn the brick or turn it colors - builders don't usually like it when you do that :)
