Boston Fire Fallout In Ct

My friend who cleans asian restaurants has been called back a couple of times to clean the duct better. A fire marshall has called him back. Jobs have been carefully checked. The issue is, my friend cannot reach a certain section of duct to clean it. The Fire inspector says if he can see it, it is not inaccessible. I think this has been caused by the asian restaurant fire and the deaths of the fire fighters.

Its about time. Inaccessibility is the lamest excuse a kitchen exhaust cleaner can use, and they use it all the time. We bid one today where the company cleaning it used that excuse, the problem is we showed the guy pictures of the access panels. Needless to say he was pissed.

The NFPA 96 definition of inaccessible is for wimps, and as far as I am concerned, anyone that follows it should be wearing a skirt.

I agree.

Does your friend have a magnetic scraper, Ed? If not, he should consider buying one ASAP.

ok imagine this, a 90 degree horizontal turn 20 feet away with a lot if grease at the turn and no access panels. I agree with my friend. There should have been access panels installed when the system was built. Dont the installers say that they are installing the system up to code? Arent they supposed to install it up to code. It is not a damn buffet, pick and choose what parts of the code you want to adhere to. Oh another point, installing an access panel is a hell of a lot easier when done prior to installation than doing ot up in a ceiling.
