Blew an outlet today. Scaired the crap out of me.

It was a covered outlet on an exterior brick wall. These things never seal good even with tape. Soap ran down 10 feet from the gable and it started popping and fizzing and just kept on. I shot a fire extinguisher up all in it best I could. My question is why did this thing pop and fizz so long? Seems the breaker should have thrown quicker. Man I had the you know what scaired out of me.

SH makes for a great conductor doesn't it? Lol. I've had it happen more times than I want to admit. The last one was at a town home association and no one was home in that unit. Didn't know if I blew out their whole place or not so we called the power company to come check it out cause it was at the main power meter. Turns out that they had an after market surge protector installed that wasn't water proof. He just cut it off. They still had power.

There should be a support group for this, Ha,Ha,...I don't feel so alone now. I SERIOUSLY hate that,..the latest incident happened to me last Thursday on a vinyl sided home. I always try and get the customer to shut the breaker off to prevent any possible issues,..and I always at least try and tape them up and also try and keep the water runoff to a minimum,....then we will use a wad of paper towels and dry the area above the outlet.,...sometimes though they must be invisible,...until you see the smoke and hear the popping,....yes,..that's a bad feeling,..thinking of flames going up inside the wall. I actually FINALLY made a sticky note for myself,..."CHECK FOR ELECTRICITY"
