Black Soot on Concrete Block

I have taken a job that requires me to clean some concrete block on a house that had burnt in a fire. The place is totally gutted and the contractors are rebuilding the house. It is a 1-story concrete block structure. The black soot on the concrete block is on the block at the top just before the roof. It is this row of blocks all the way around the house. I plan to use F-13 on the block to loosen the soot and then pressure wash it off. I was wondering if anyone else out there had a job like this and what you used to remove the black soot from the concrete block. I appreciate your inputs. Hugh

JC I appreciate the input. I will keep some Simple Green onboard in case I have a problem with the chemicals I plan to use. Thanks Hugh

I have only done it a few times but I remember it coming right off sometimes and being almost impossible other times. I think eacochem has a product that is actually made for or reccomended for fire/smoke damage and their other products I have tried are really good.

Thanks Chris for the response. By the way how would you mix the F-13 to remove soot? Hugh

I forgot if I used the F-18 or F-13 for soot from fire damage but it did work good whatever it was that I used. Call Bob or Andy and ask them.

Thanks Chris will do. How has business been for you lately? I have been alittle slow, but enough business to keep me busy. Hugh

Work is very, very slow but I do have some work but at the end of the month scheduled and a huge job the second week of December.

Wish I could do them all right now.

I want to thank everyone for their input, but here is what happened. I have decided not to do the job. The contractor, after accepting my bid told me that I could start last Wednesday because the carpenters would be out of the structure. Well this place is about 45-miles one way from my home. I got there Wednesday with my trailer and there had to be 20-carpenters all over the place. I got ahold of the contractor who hired me and he was unaware that they were still working on the house. I tried to understand and rescheduled for Today (Monday), the contractor assured me that I would have the building all to myself to clean up the inside and out. I drove the 45-miles one way only to find 6-contractors inside installing the AC & Heat duct work. Duct work was lying all over the place inside and out. I find out that these folks were suppose to do there work on Friday but decided to take the day off instead. The contractor that hired me wasn't around. I tried his cell number and got an answering machine. I left a message stating that he needs to get someone else to do the job. I am through driving that distance without earning a dime. I can understand it happening once but twice? When it happened the first time I told him I could do it later this week but he insisted it had to be done on Monday. I am sure he didn't know the AC people were there today. So what would you guys have done about this??? Do you agree with me or not??? Hugh

I just dropped a $250.00 roof because of the same run around.New bushes planted al around the place just waiting for me to be blamed for them not growing even though they were just planted and its starting to frost at night here.

Sometimes I just punt jobs after so much BS,I know somebody is going to say OH that's not professional. So what the pain in the but some people cause ain't worth it.

For every crappy job you drop, a slot opens up to be filled by a good job!

Fill your schedule with crappy jobs, and there will be no room for good ones.

You guys are doing the right thing!

Hello Hugh,

Bill them for your time!

I would have at least tested a spot to be sure you have what the job is going to need in order to complete it.

We have had to move/cover stuff in order to complete many jobs. And/or get the other contractors to work in a different area or something.

We have had some projects that we did by hand because of the circumstances around the work site!

Doing these extra things in order to complete work is also another reason to bill them extra for your increased costs.

If your in business long enough this will happen again and you may get more work from them because you became the problem solver.

David I appreciate the advise, but the only way I will go out of business is if I decide to do so myself. I pretty much pick and choose what jobs I will do. I work by myself and I don't need the money to live on. I love to Pressure Wash and meet new people. I guess meeting new people is a carry over from my Sheriff days. What I didn't mention was that I did try to remove a small area in the rear of the house which came off pretty well, but since there was a gap between the top concrete block and the roof, the other contractors were griping that I was getting them wet and also their duct work laying all over the floor inside. This is why I stopped and decided to leave. Hugh
