Beaufortonians may have to look elsewhere for a late-night drive-through snack over the next few days.
Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers, 2234 Boundary St., will be closed indefinitely after a grease fire in the kitchen Wednesday afternoon, fire officials said.
Restaurant staff evacuated customers and put out much of the fire on the grill before firefighters arrived at about 4 p.m. Wednesday, Beaufort fire marshal Dan Byrne said.
However, the fire had spread to the wall, and Byrne said firefighters had to tear down some of the wall to ensure the blaze was fully extinguished.
The fire was caused by a faulty part in the grill, and no code violations are suspected, Byrne said.
Two lanes on Boundary Street were blocked for about 30 minutes.
