Attn Jon the Flat Surface Guru!!

Hey Jon,
I have a question about flat surface cleaners. I use one only occasionally and am never satisfied with the results. I go over the surface in one direction, then again across the grain and still end up doing almost the entire surface with a turbo nozzle. I run an RK-31 with a 30" surface cleaner.

Are the Landa units any better at cleaning? I used one when I had a cold water unit and it did ok, but haven't tried one since I got hot water. I forgot to say than I also upstream soap with hot water while using the surface cleaner.

I don't know if my expectations are too high, or what. I am pretty much a perfectionist. I won't leave a customer's job in a condition less than I would accept. I just seem to be spending an inordinate amount of time on flat surface cleaning these days. Any wisdom or insight will be appreciated.

I am not Jon, but I might be able to help.

The Landa is a lot better. The reason is that there is a tighter pattern that the spray bar is spinning in. It is also adjustable for height.

If you are needing to go in two directions there could be a couple of problems. One is that you rmachine is not putting out enough water, or your Nozzlea are two big. They do wear out and caused reduced pressure over time.

Be careful with the turbo nozzle on concrete. It can easily permanently damage the concrete, and leave you and your customer dissatisfied.

GURU I am not but thanks for the kind words:)

Thanks Scott and Ron.

One other reason could be your moving to fast or slow.

Also is it extremely dirty to start with, there are times going over it twice has to be done, not unusual for me to do that.

Try overlapping, start at the edge, do your forward and backwards covering, then move over half the width of your surface cleaner.

And as Scott says, nozzles clog up so replace them once a month at the least, cheap insurance if you look at it that way.

Jon,
You are truly a guru in my book. "The Wind Beneath My Wings" LOL. Anyway, what about oxalic or muriatic acid? Do you apply this after using the surface cleaner/hot water/soap? Thanks again.

Warren i use a Landa Water Jet and am very happy,i apply a 50/50 muriatic/water solution with a dash of soap....out of a 5 gal bucket using a simpson injector,if i am doing 10,000 sq. ft. or more,i apply the chems by upstreaming through the pump from a 50 gallon tank at a dilution of 5gal acid to 45 gal water plus a little detergent of your choice.

call Jeff at Cleaning Systems Of The Carolinas in indian trail if you need pricing on the water jet.

ps. i apply the acid to the surface, clean with surface cleaner and rinse with 15° nozzle

then apply oxalic acid to the surface, dwell for short time and rinse off.

Truth be told I don't touch muriatic acid, ever.

I do use oxalic acid, sometimes mixed with the degreaser and other times mixed with water, sprayed on and rinsed off right away.

I have sprinkled it on, brushed it in and then rinsed but notice no difference, could be how I am doing it. Have been told do it several times to see results. Oh well to each his own on that one.

Thanks for the kind words too.

Jon
