Asphalt cost

Here is what is happening to our country today.

Can someone in who has been in the asphalt business tell me why 1 mile of asphalt costs $100,000? (Maybe the asphalt guys got together and got licensed and formed an organization to keep all the hackers out of the biz?) I don't know, just guessing. If that's what they did, they are all going out of business now.

Think asphalt sells for 40.00 a ton......Dont ask me how many tons........Then you have to lay it down

So does that mean there are 2,500 tons in one mile of asphalt. And if so that means there is 5,000,000 lbs of asphalt in one mile. WOW Didn't ever guess that.

Things That Make Go Hmmmm

TDOT needs to build a bypass route around
Clarksville, TN and they are trying to decide
whether to use concrete or asphalt pavement.
The concrete pavement will cost $4,000,000 per
mile to construct and $100,000 per mile to
maintain each year. Every 40 years, the concrete
will have to be removed and replaced at a cost of
$2,000,000 per mile.
The asphalt pavement will cost $3,000,000 per
mile to construct and $75,000 per mile for annual
maintenance. Every 10 years, the top two inches
of the asphalt will have to be milled off and
replaced at a cost of $1,000,000 per mile.

Do the math. How much maintenance can a concrete road take?

If it is a four lane with a division we could clean it once a month year round for less than $100,000 per mile with the surface cleaner.

Somebody's rolling in some dough for nothing. Whoever it is, they're probably related to AlGore.

$4 million is $15.00 per square foot. At that rate that would make the concrete foundation for my house and warehouse area almost $80k.

Corrupt politicians and ignorant voters are the reason for this.

They want $1200 to $1600 to pave my driveway with ashphalt. Its about 140 foot long. If you double its width to get a narrow public road, and stretch it out to a mile, it comes out to about 100 grand. So Id say thats about right................I still have a gravel driveway.
