Looking for a used car for my son who will turn 17 soon. Going tomorrow to look at a 1991 Nissan 300ZX. Anyone have or had one around this year? It's a non turbo with the t-tops. Just wondering if there's any recurring issues with this model.

I know several young men that have the 300zx.

The only troubles that I know of with that model are directly related to the operators.

I had a 1989 280zx Anniversary edition when I was in college.. It was a nice car but got awful gas mileage.. Are you sure the insurance won't eat you alive ?? He doesn't want a truck ?? I would probably say if he wants a sports car go with something american made it will be cheaper to work on ..

They are good cars. One of my customers has an old 240z that they still drive occasionally. Insurance might be high though.
Yep, calling soon to get a quote.

I had one, cant remember the year, biggest complaint is T-Tops got stolen by someone smashing the side windows and then grabbing them. Happened several times in "good" areas. Insurance always paid but a major PITA

Really, I would get my son a beater. Of course, we are all geeks.

I drove a 1988 300zx through college and MANY years after. The most enjoyable car EVER and I should have never sold it. I am actually looking for a low mileage '88 or '89 (last of the body style) with a 5-speed and t-tops. A good friend of mine drove a '92 model for over 10 years and he had no problems with it.

I had the 91 twin turbo 300z. fast fun car. Almost split it in 2 around a metal light pole..lol

Well, here it is...picked it up yesterday for $2200. Needs some work, but overall will be a fun project.

The Z cars were fun, I had a 300 and a 240 while in high school. Since its a 6cyl, insurance will be cheap like you mentioned. Just don't put the chinese junk on it and it will run for a while. Keep the fart pipes off of it and she will be a decent car. And also stickers don't give you horsepower so don't put them all over it thinking that a nitrous sticker will make the car faster.

All joking aside, he will have a great time with that car and its small enough you don't have to worry about grand babbies stemming from the back seat.

I love those early 90's Z's ! I always wanted one, now your kid has a cooler car than I ever have. My niece has a bigger tv than me also!

Let's take care of that Tom. Show your niece up! I have a 50" HD projection TV for sale. Come over and I'll give it to you for $200 (Listed on CL for $375).

17yo+300z=er
My wife and I had a long talk with our son about this. We agreed that he is responsible enough to have this type of car. He's been an honor student since 7th grade, has a couple Presidential Acedemic Excellence awards, etc. Point is, he has his priorities in order for being 17, plus he's been through a couple defensive driving courses, including an intense Tucson Police class.

Plus he knows first ticket or us finding out about ANY type of speeding or wreckless driving, and the car is taken away.
