Anybody having trouble getting paid ?

Man I was just looking at the books for June and I noticed our account was slowly dwindeling down to nothing ... I know I have been working alot so I asked my wife shw said no one has paid ... Wow we have 11,000 dollars out and not one single check in except for 1- 250.00 cash job.. Dang I had to stop and call alot of people this morning.. I had a few people say that the check was in the mail and a few said they would be a little late this time on paying.. OMG.. I wish I could tell my bill collectors that..I have 4 Jobs lined up this week as well 2 on account and 2- cod... But still have to supply gas diesel and chem.. I also have a large account that is passed due as of yesterday begging me to do some more work..Man do these people think I am rich or something .???
 
I seem to be doing OK-but I just get the feeling the some are extending a week or two. I did turn Simplex into collection 7 months out-this was last month.
 
You may want to look into accounting software that tracks that closer with alerts. Also do you extend discounts for payment within 30 days net 5% etc? Or charge late fees? Seems to motivate the bean counters. Excessive accounts receivables can kill your business. Especially when a big one goes under.

I always view calls for cash like closing a contract. Which day would be more convenient for me to pick up a check Wed or Thursday? I know many checks are coming from out of town and that won't work. But it is a case of the squeaky wheel getting the grease. I don't want to lose an account over slow pay but we gotta eat. The time you spend "dialing for dollars" is just as valuable as the time you spend doing the work. The real PIA is they usually send you over to voice mail.

Everyone has to have a limit when they say I can't send anyone out until we get the account current.
 
Thanks I do track 30-60-90, the problem was Simplex Grinnell is so big that just ignored me for the seven grand until I turned them into collection.

Funny you say that, we have noticed the same thing. We do mostly residential, so I've been able to really emphasize the payment due upon receipt policy. I've been telling my guys not to leave without a check.
 
Most of my customers are pretty good at being early, but I have had a few that are taking a bit longer as of late, but I allways get payed. So yes it seems the last 3 Months things have been changing and I think it is the small shop owners in the complexes paying later to them so it trickles down to me too..
