Advice on cedar shake roof!

Hey guys,
I am in central california. About 80% of the roofs in my area are shake.
This is my fathers roof. This is the north side of the roof. The south side that gets the sun looks nothing like this.

I have seen guys on you-tube blasting away. Not too sure if I would want to try that. Need some adivce on chems? Would like to try too soft wash this...

WOW, I'm out!..........My first thought was replace it but I'm sure that some on here have more patients than me. Chems and soft washing may do wonders for it but I'm sure that without a good sealer after cleaning it will be back in no time.

Larry, Thanks for the reply.
All of the roofs in this area that are shake and just a few years old have this problem. Can't find anyone that cleans roof's in the area (phonebook, net) might have somthing going here if I can find the way...........
