A new contest.

I talked to Ron about this a couple of weeks ago, and he said run it. There will be a prize, that is undecided right now. I am sure that Ron will be along shortly to name a prize.

Here is the Contest:

I am looking for the hint or tip that has the lowest cost with the highest return in time or money. I want free tips, but for the purposes of the contest they probably won't apply here. So you have to give an idea of how much they cost, and where or how it will save time and money. The winner will be narrowed down by me and decided in the secret catacombs of the moderators.

An Example:
I use 5/8's washers on my hoses right next to the quick connects on extra hose lengths. They keep the QC's from dragging on the ground and getting deformed, etc. The cost is .07 cents and the savings is in the amount of time it takes to release the hose, and it makes the quick connects last a lot longer.

Winners choice.....

A high return in money might be this.

Buy red or off road diesel rather then regular diesel fuel.

Add he savings up over a week, month and year and it might surprise you.

For those that do not have any stations that sell red dye just deduct the cost of all taxes and you will see the savings.

Howerver I am sure there are places you can buy it from so check the phone book for off road fuel.

(oh gad I can hear it now, Jon your crazy, might be but the savings does add up, yes I buy red dye so I know.)

the savings is about 10-15 cents a gallon, depending on your state.

use a electric blanket to keep your unit from freezing low voltage keeps the whole unit warm
use a moving blanket on top to hold the heat
no compressor,no anti freeze, no high electric bill. also i know some use a light bulb but what if it burns out during the night.
$60 to save a $350 pump and lost day.
also think its safer with the gas fumes.

heres one you might not of thought of.
install a LO-JACK in your trailer[theft recovery system] $300 could save you $20,000 or more.

I got my best customer from the signs on my truck. She saw me go through town and jotted down my number. I have the magnetic signs. They cost from $45 to $75. Money well spent

Come on, there has to be more tips and hints out there. I would hate to have to award it on the basis of three ideas.

Why don't somebody tell him how to save on pumping chemicals out of drums,by not having to buy nomore drum pumps.....don't ya want a award squrit

This isn't cheap but if you Rhino Coat your truck/van beds water and soap's not gonna eat'em up.

Now I want to know about the Drum Pump idea Biggie??

Heck Booyaa, dat simple, remember when we was teenagers and cut a few feet of garden hose, stuck it in a cars gas tank and sucked till gas came out?

Just do the same but use an old towel to help keep it out of your mouth!

Dat is cheap pump.

For those of you that think I truly recommend this don't try it. I am only kidding around here.

Jon I could of used your "old towel" idea a few days ago when I had to use a piece of hose and suck the water out of my holding tank. Wasn't paying attention and it went straight down my throat lol... If you're not expecting it it's the choking spell of the month!!

Hey bro :D .

hmmm lowcost highest return............(squirt)

If your tired of buying pumps for the drums try this cheap idealer:

Use air psi to push the chemical out:

on of the lids place a tire valve stem,,the other lid drill a hole big enough for 1/2 or 3/4 pvc hotwater pipe, the pipes len'th is kept 1/4,1/2 in. off bottom of drum,on top of the pvc pipe plum a cutoff valve and a hose of your choice for filling,,,,,by adding air psi to the drum it will push the chemicals out the pvc pipe into ya jug,use the valve to shut off when full..........hint its just a tip that things can be applied by useing air psi.

that pumper-less drum, idea really works. like bigboy has said, will last a long time. i still chuckle about that. this year i'll advance to an RV compressor (bigboys suggestion here too).

i'm giving it a real thought to use that system for deck work. not as much clean up if you have enough hose.

this year i'm going to try using 15 gal containers and plumbing them for air: one for stripper, one for oxalic acid, one for disod perox, one for soap, one for sod hyd, and maybe one or two for sealer. i've just got to invest in the rv pump, enough hose and hand pump type wand for each app. with this system you have no clean up and keep everything in the enclosed trailer.

first though, before you start each job, reverse the hoses on the tanks and agitate the mix with air. :D :D

this is not a cheap initial investement but will save lots money and headaches in the future. i am lucky, my tanks were free.

good luck, roy;)

Don't know if anybody else uses this, but we put ball shut off valves on our hose ends before the quick disconnects so we can just shut down the line at the end of the hose and switch out wands, add hoses, etc. without mess or leaks.

The other thing that you can use this for is close up work that a wand can't fit. We just plumb a quick disconnect for our nozzles directly to the ball valve with some extra black pipe covered with neoprene hose (to stop burns) as a connector. We can work in an area with less than six to eight inches of clearance with that and also adjust the pressure according to how far open the valve is. Just be careful you don't drop it as there's no trigger, just an open valve and it jumps like a stray fire hose if it gets away from you... :)

As for the air pressure spraying, those are basically pressure pots you are making with the chem drums. There's stainless steel pressure pots out there that they used to use for bug killing chemicals that work great for this system. They have a sealed center for pouring chems in, with two disconnects on either side for the intake and outakes. Plug your air compressure hose to the intake side and your chem hose to the outake and you've got a low pressure applicator system. Plus with the stainless pressure pots you can add enough pressure to push chems as high as several stories over 300+ feet of hose. Add a ball valve to the end with a chem nozzle and you can control it from where you are standing next to the brick, deck or other materials being cleaned. With multiple pots, you can wrap 2 or 3 chem hoses together and have different valves at the end for using different chems without changing anything back at the pressure pot.

By the way finding stainless steel pressure pots are tough out here in PA. If anybody happens to know of any out there, our company will buy them from you. Just let me know or send us some digital pictures of the one's you've found.

Nothing earth shattering but these ideas have saved us an enormous amount of time and hassle...

I buy a shutoff value for high pressure hose next to my gun. The value has a 3/8 female quick conect on one end and a 3/8 male on the other end. Now when I want to change guns I do not need walk back to shut down the washer to change guns or get to tried from swinging that 24 ft exten 8 or 10 hours a day. Price of the value about $23.00 Saving: I hear you thats been out man where you been!

I attached a piece of 2" PVC, about three feet long to the inside of my enclosed trailer wall. I slide my wands inside, sort of like a holster, to keep the wands from being damaged during transit. You can vary the diameter and length of the PVC pipe to suit your specific needs. This costs only a couple bucks, but saves alot more dollars and time replacing damaged wands.

hey pressure clean

there is a guy here that uses soda canisters[you know the ones under the counter in 7-11 and a CO2 TANK as a pressure supply he also makes his own surface cleaners. nice guy but damned if i can remember his name
