Dangerous areas

How do you guys handle dangerous areas? I have a couple of gas station owners that are wanting me to do some of their stations and they are in very bad areas. They have said I can do them during the day time but still... I have called the Atlanta PD and they told me how to look the crime up and lets just say that the page lit up with little baloons - showing where the specific crime took place.

Right now, I am either thinking to charge a premium and have a uniformed police escort me around that day or just pass on the work completely.

How do you guys handle dangerous locations?

Been thinking about this one too. Ive got some stores that Im about to start doing, that are in really bad areas, and they have to be done when the store is closed. I was thinkin about paying my brother to to go along (carrying) just to watch my back, while working!

lets see...... I have been shot at, had a knife pulled on me, got in a fight once with a guy that tried to hit me with a bat (while wanting money) he wont do that again !

I have seen drug deals by the thousands and have worked in the WORST areas in the world, been alone in the dark with only 2 6x9 lights in the rain having to watch over my shoulder. Was I scared? A little but it is the path I chose so I deal with it and I dont do anything that will put others in danger light trying to clean a gas station that I cant shut down in the daytime.

Furthermore, I clean commercial concrete so I have employees 99% of the time with me.

What about Dogs posted this on another site :Just wondering how many of u guys take your dog with you to work at night. Im thinking of taking my dog he's good about staying on the truck untill he sees someone approaching. what do u guys think?

I would not take my dog just knowing what I use to clean with would hurt animal at full streight. But the brother with scat gun is smart Idea.

smart idea on not taking the dog, Not to bust anyones balls I will keep it simple if you want to do this type of work at night you need to grow a pair and man up :D

Just have 2 squirt bottles filled with the most potant stuff you got and hang them from your pockets...not illigal wepons but if need be... Ok, well not really, but where I live if there is a potential problem find out if a police officer can just park in your lot...Kind of a gaurdian angel for ya, Oh and BTW I am glad I live somewhere thats not that bad crime wise!!!

remember if you squirt chems at someone you may get sued. That would suck, defending yourself with a little chem and getting sued for chem burns ?

I'd be claiming self-defense all over the court. Use a solution that would be deemed appropriate for the kind of work you're doing ... then you can simply say you had that with you coincidentally ... ok it's a little far stretched. If you're really that scared about a place like that, just have somebody with you.

Walkie Talkies with vibrate are great. Have someone "look out" and "vibrate" you if something seems fishy ... you'll have 200 degree water at your disposal.

The hot water is probably gonna have the same outcome as the chemicals getting sued. I'm sure you can claim self defense, but that doesn't mean you'll win. i've seen some stupid stuff go on out there. I'm not sure going alone at night into some areas is a good idea, the simple fact of there's strength in numbers comes into play here. I've been called to work in some pretty bad areas, you go, stay in yellow, and go for it. Good luck..

You havent worked in the WORST area in the world. Trust me :D ;)

I Guess I'm lucky here in Reno, we do have worse areas then others but so far not to many problems. I do have a new center that we may start on May 1 that it is in an old part of town and makes me think about carrying my 45 but until I work there and see just how bad it is I will hold off.

This question arises often now for us, there are almost always 2 or more people on a job so each is watching the other back. I carry a little 25 in my pocket at all times just in-case however if approached and its either them or me, Id have to say sorry fella. A dead man cannot testify, one with a bum leg or gut shot can

Funny, I have never had a problem, and I have worked in areas at night, solo, that cops fear to tread. Maybe I was just lucky, or maybe it is that I am imposing. ( I seriously doubt that) I do keep a wary eye, and instead of acting like I dont see someone, I will look at them and address them, by asking how they are doing. It usually keeps them off guard enought that they dont want to cause me problems. There is a more than a little psychology to it, though. If you address someone, suddenly things are far more personal, and even the biggest thug does not want to attack someone that he has talked to.

Ditto!! We have also been cleaning right in the middle of a few armed robberies, and were surrounded by police and swat.

It is going to happen, there are areas like this all over the country, there is never a shortage of scum bag's!!

Get yourself a CCP and protect yourself because SH*T happens in seconds and police are there in minutes!!

SH*T happens to quickly for you to switch tips and spray him with a downstreamer wich takes a minute to pick up chemicals? Get real, if you dont carry a GUN that you can draw within seconds or at least a knife, you will find yourself in a bad situation!
