Will the PWNA make It?

I was contemplating traveling to Board meeting this week but decided not to.

I was talking with several of the members this week about the recent changes to the organization. I think recently the change of finally making a connection with our customers is the right direction.

Although we need to join organizations, recently I sold division of my company to an international publicly traded company. I was able to stay on for the transition. While I was on board I learn that relationships with all there customers are done through the organizations. Educating the correct people about the programs and new technology was being done to hundreds during these conventions. From restaurant industry to the grocery and hospitality industry. Millions of customers contacted and reached by news letter meetings and mailers.

This one singles source has brought relationships and investors though he fronts doors.

This industry is being harnessed by a few people. It takes dollars and the right customers to make this happen.

Example, no names mentioned (wally world) as a generic name being used. If Wally world was going to hire you they want a guarantee that you can perform the working given. They want to know that your financial position is strong and that once your start you will complete the work.

This particular investor(company)while not just holding wally business but lets say Marriott , Hilton and about 6 other fortunes five hundred company’s. This builds the confidence and assurance they can and will get the job done.

While Phoenix my market is huge, comparable to the planet its nothing. While personally I have done well and pressure cleaning has been good I still wonder what and how they made it work. How could I turn my company into a 50 a mill annual giant?

Here it is,

MONEY
Personnel (members) (associates)
Networking (organizations)

If the focus is not on that and that we cannot make money with this group then the reality of extinction is upon us.

Make people want to join make the organization so strong and its affiliates understand and know why they should only use and PWNA certified contractor. Educate the customers with and campaign.

Get large donations from manufactures in our industry. C-Tech sells billions of $$$$$$$$$ pressure washers throughout the world. They once were a member and now won’t even pay 399.00 for an associate membership. They should give 1 million back to education in this industry annually. People will think that statement is crazy; we need to prove our buying power. But it’s a double edge sword. Currently we have a few hundred members. Others in this field know how large it really is and some are blind to the number and the growing demand.

Training material sold with every machine. Volunteer workshops with there retail customers such as Home depot and lowes and other home centers. While the volunteering PWNA want programs and wants to help the industry every thing we do I see is sometimes not seen. Example: that stadium washed on project great PR. How about a campaign to show folks how to stain there decks. For every ten you show they say 6 hire you. A friend of mine retails tile to HOME stores. He installs also. He generates a lot of business doing this.( send two guys twice and week to one location all day for seminars. ) generates 1.7 off each locations just in labor. He helps them move tile and keeps crews busy installing. I wonder what the ratio is. How many really do it themselves?

This one small idea that could help a local contractor out.

Here are two more……….

PWNA approved educating customer programs. Certify members to hold local seminars for your approved vendor lists. (Educate customers locally and show them benefits of using us)

Make a safety manual that’s free. Give this to anyone that might be a customer.
( Maybe sell them to manufactures to give or have on shelf when customers buy retail.)

One more, have mobile trainers to go from city to city training new guys that purchase equipment from local distributors. (Huge) this would create dollars from all directions. Regular member and associate.

Take a stand and not worry whom you might upset and not upset. Pick people that are motivated to help. Stick with them no matter what.

All the above takes a lot of dollars, not one of us starting with a million. Isolate one idea and do it well until it pays.

Don’t tell me this is not possible, many are already doing it.

Think Outside the BOX……………..

Great post Ron. I personally believe that the PWNA has made many baby steps in the past, partially from lack of defined direction, partially from (and no disrespect to former leaders) "old school" thinking. In the past several months, I think that some of the movers and shakers have begun taking some large strides toward making this organization what it needs to be!

The PWNA much like any other organization is constantly changing and working to serve it's membership and mission. I also think the PWNA has made extra large strides recently and I believe things will get even better in the future. The new website will draw more traffic and let consumers and power washers know the proper methods of power washing. It will also bring in more work and visibility for it's members than ever.

The licensing and insurance requirements will also help to insure that it's membership is legal and professional.
