Which Generator?

How many watts is that total, and how much do you have budgeted?

500 watts on the lighting
Not sure on the billy goat.. have to look into that..
Not sure on the Sirocco...

I will come back with some figures!

For the PEV2 you want a minimum of a 5500-6000 watt generator just to run it alone. Run heavy gauge extension cords and run as short of a cord as possible

I would get the bigger of the two, just in case you want to run something else as you mentioned. I would suggest Honda, just because they are great units, but they are also expensive. They run forever, even when you beat them up a bit.... I could do a Honda EU7000 for $4118.04. (Here is a link for it http://www.honda.com/newsandviews/article.aspx?id=7557-en) Or we could do a 8000 watt Generac for around $1250. Shipping is additional on both units

Why is there such a difference in price brotha? Is it in the specs somewhere?

Or is Honda just longer lasting? and by what means? I'm confused (insert sad face) lol

Quality of power... so what you're saying is that over time, if chose the other one... it potentially could ruin the equipment I connect to the cheaper generator?

Not too sure how I feel about the noise thing... unless I'm doing a parking lot for a shopping center near a residential area... Noise ordinances could be an issue..

I would think electric motors would be fine. Just don't want to plug computers, tv's, and that sort of thing into the lower end non-inverter generators. When I pull the trigger on a PEV I will probably just get something decent with a Honda engine and electric start.

No computers going in there lol

Considering the cheaper one to start and I'll run a case study to see how long it lasts me. If it lasts 2 years, I would probably be content with it. If not, I'll pick up a honda generator when the other one craps out.

Just pulled the trigger on a PEV2... I've heard great things!

Best of both worlds. A honda engine and a decent price. You will need to make the calculation. Multiply the amps times the volts, and you will get the watts. A lot of people don't understand that, and I have argued it before with people that should have known but had no clue. My favorite was when I was told I had to have a 5000 watt generator for a 5 amp pump. 5x120=600 watts. The guy was dumbfounded that it was so easy to calculate. With a little research, most vacuum motors are at the most 13 amps. Since the pev2 has two motors in it, that is 26x12=3120 watts with a couple of 500 watt lights you are a touch over 4000 watts. Don't forget your pump out. That is another 600 watts. So that makes Andy correct. You might even want yo go a little more, except an additional 3000 watts neatly doubles the price.

Good find Scott.

I'm all for spending money on something that can be justified, but also, as a small business owner... Gotta save my pennies where I can lol

Don't worry about the generator lifespan, keep changing the oil and regular maintenance and you will get many years out of it.

I bought one used and it is still working over 10.5 years now and is still very strong. Coleman Powermate 5500 watts with the Briggs engine pull start.

That generator is a heck of a good value.

Chris, you hit the nail right on the head! MAINTENANCE makes the world a better place. lol

Ted, absolutely. I pulled the trigger with no hesitation. Cost me 1,700 with shipping and everything.
