What are your most common employee issues?

Tony, you may be correct. The case I was eluding too involved a good friend on mine who also has his business here in town. He worked for a pressure washing company for several years prior to starting up on his own. He got sued because he signed a non compete clause when he was employed there. It cost him thousands (attorney fees) to win the case but the reason he told me he won was because the judge said the non compete he signed was written to severe.

I didn't mean imply that they are bullet proof but it sounded like he would've lost if it had been written more justly.

That's crazy... Lost because he wrote it too severe. Guess it shows it pays to be fair and karma exists in this world.

We had a guy pay us $2000 down on a $31k licensing agreement. He took our signage, forms, and a week of training and opened up shop within weeks of getting back home.

He never paid the balance and quit returning calls.

We sued.

After about 32k in legal fees we lost.

How? Because after the first served papers he GAVE the business to his brother.

A few weeks after we quit going after him he put it back in his name.

We spent another 8k on him again. We had to quit again because his defense was he simply helped rescue his brothers failing business.

Who won?

The lawyer did.

It was crazy.

I hope his conscience eats at him at night, not many worse things in the world then thieves.

It never does. People like that justify everything they do.

I would have to say not being me, plain and simple. I supervised Air Traffic controllers since I was 18. When something needed to be done it got done and with quality. So I bought this thinking to my business, wrong. I had to lower my expectations and explain every detail on how a job is done on paper (checklist). Example pull up to the house make sure hose reels are facing towards the house, go knock on the door, let the customer know who you are, do a walk around of the of the property, let the customer know you will come and get them when you are complete, etc... If you don't put it writing or explain step by step. You will be surprised at what people do.

Also make sure you routinely show up to jobs at-least one per day. This is called keeping honest people honest.

Remember they do not own the company you do, so no matter how good the employee seems its not their company.

That's the truth
