I have a mobile home to wash. It has vinyl siding that is pretty dirty on mildewed. I am new at this an am wondering what type of chemical mix I should use. I have heard bleach with tide and water. I have also heard TSP and bleach.
What should I use and what is the mix ratio???
I have a 4.0 gpm 3500psi 13hp (cold water).
Also, do I need to worry about the chemicals getting on the windows???
Thanks for the help.
This board is great for us rookies!!!!!!!!!11

Hi!

This is one job where bleach wont harm anything.Mobile homes are very easy to wash but when i just started out i was worried too.
This is what i would do.Wet down one side, plants too.,With a pump up cover it with bleach bottom up,dont let it dry if hot, depending on temperature let it sit a couple of minutes.I mix half gal of bleach,1 cup of dollar store laundry detergent,a little of cascade, ,all in 3 gal sprayer.Even if house is real nasty and mildewed by the time i get done spraying and crank up my machine ,it all is already gone, all you have to do is rinse it down.I rinse with as low as 1500 psi.If mold dont dissapear in couple of minutes ,you must have missed that spot or mixture not strong enaugh.
Thats it,one side is done.Start on next and so on.Dont expect to get out spider droppings,(little black dots),mulch or red mud stains,it will lighten them up but wont get them out completely. Those are the places where i use more pressure and get closer to the siding. In fact if you wanted to ,a mobile home can be washed with bleach and water hose if only mold, mildew is present but it would take a long time,i am glad most homeowners dont know that.
Have fun

Also ,tide is supposed to work better, but i havent had a problem without it.
Dont spray bleach on windows, but if you do by accident thats why you wet them down,so they wont dry on you.Thats why you add cascade to your mix to help rinse. When you start washing rinse windows first thing before anything .Its not that it will hurt them but its nice to leave them as clean or better then you found them

Chris,

If your going to wash houses then save yourself the headache and invest in an x-jet or similar nozzle as soon as possible. I make my own from a downstream injector that works just as well and for under $30. The only difference is an actual x-jet nozzle will allow you to vary the dilution rate. 3 gallons of bleach and 1/2 gal. high alkaline truck wash is all you need for an average size house. Spray it on at about 10-1 to 15-1 dilution, depending on how bad dirty it is and let it dwell 3-5 minutes, then rinse. You don't have to worry about plants or windows, but like John said, don't let it dry. Also, with the injector nozzle, you don't need extension wands or ladders because the nozzle will reach the top of most 2 story homes and some 3 stories.

Les

PS. I have nothing against using Tide or laundry detergents, but if you find the right alkaline soap, it will remove the black streaks from gutters without brushing, something that Tide will not do. I use a non-acid (sodium hydroxide based) aluminum brightener for my mix.
