Walmart contracts

Here is the company that had contacted me looking for BIDS.

http://www.sms-assist.com/

The only thing I can say positive is that they were taking bids BEFORE submitting thier bid to Wal-Mart. Instead of bidding and then offering up work already priced.

I just passed on the info to others to look at. I did not submit a bid because Wal-Mart wants you to sign that you will remove all waste water off site but has historically shown not to hold contractors to it. So, they want you to sign (remove them from harm) and then give them a low price and don't care if you actually reclaim. Thier properties, for the most part, should not require offsite discharge, yet they want you to sign that you will just to protect themselves somehow. But the truth is that some are "displaying" the equipment, but it seldomly gets turned on. Wal-Mart isn't paying enough to do full reclaim, so do you really think its getting done? And it certainly won't be paying enough if a middleman is involved.

Mike have you even heard of Divisions Inc in Kentucky?

I've seen thier website but we don't go after that work so have never called them. I don't much like middlemen anyhow.

Do you use them?

There is a guy here that does the Wal Marts but does not recover anything but has one of those little hydrotek vacuum systems on the trailer but does not use it on the Wal Mart. I saw them cleaning the Wal Mart last week but again, no reclaim, just water running into the parking lot as usual.

I took pictures on my camera phone but they came out terrible, very blurry with the lights and everything.

At the Sam's Club they also want you to haul the water off-site but do not have the proper bill of ladings or manifests.

I guess it will take a contractor getting tickets from D.O.T., State Troopers or Sheriff Deputy's to make the contractors aware of how they are not supposed to be hauling the stuff off-site. I heard of 3 contractors in the Houston area getting tickets from hauling the stuff off-site. I do not know them personally but I believe that the tickets were for:
1. Not having a Waste Hauler's license or permit
2. Not having a D.O.T. approved container or registered vehicle
3. Not having a D.O.T. CDL Class B or higher with Hazmat Endorsement for the hazardous cargo (more than 1000 pounds of hazardous chemical)
4. No MSDS for the hazardous material
I think that there was something else they were hit for but since I do not know them personally, I don't know exactly.

I heard also that those 3 guys know each other and are thinking of taking this to court because the city of Houston did not inform them of D.O.T. regulations but told them that they had to haul it off-site.

I do not know if this would make it to court because you should know the D.O.T. regulations if you drive on Roads or Highways here in the United States, especially if you are hauling things like hazardous waste (contaminated water).

I do not know if the city of Houston would be liable for telling contractors to do something like that but not telling them of the D.O.T. regulations to do that job legally.

I am not an attorney so I have no clue of what could happen or if it would even make it to court.

I wonder what could happen, especially if this made the news?

I put in quotes for 0ver 30 stores with SMS they are very good people and my pricing was in line with what they thought it should be .... They are trying to show wal-mart that the water doesn't need to be full reclaim. ... as far as the bleach walmart has a no chem policy so only hot water is aloud ... you may be able to do a one time cleaning and get a cash pay out but for contract work you are going to have to go thru regional .... Me, I would rather bid through and assist co. and let them tell me we got em instead of jumping thru walkmarts hoops .... my pricing i gave was to clean not jump through hoops ... that being said the price is far from whored out!

I contacted that company Russ they are about 30 min. north of me I sent them an e mail this morning ... thanks mike ! :)

That all sounds good if they are paying as well as you guys say. I like the idea of them trying to get rid of the fake reclaim requirement. There can be good service companies if they are willing to pay the contractor well and represent both their interest and the interest of the contractor.

I'm going to jump over to some of the other facility services boards and see what other industries think about some of these service companies.

That would be very interesting to see, Interesting to see if they tell the truth or cover up.

There might be some good companies out there if you look enough, you just never know.

It would be great to find a company that represents both and charges a fair price so both them and the contractor make good money instead of whoring the prices so only the middle man makes the money.

no, they contacted me about doing some pressure cleaning on Kohl's, I didnt know anything about them so I thought you might.

we got a call last year from them and they asked to do a Kohl's, turned it down due to the $$$ but there are several others out there that are willing to work for beer money.

Its amazing how many of those companies are out there.

According to the snowplowing bulletin boards, Walmart has signed a contract with USM for snowplowing, lot sweeping, and powerwashing.
I believe it because several weeks ago, USM sent me a questionaire via fax.

Big changes coming....

Type in walmart and usm in google first up is a snow plow bbs (a site for snow removal ? Wow )....pretty intresting reading their board...they also talk about pressure washing ....
One poster summed it up "big changes are a commin"

They called me about a month ago to be one of their preferred vendors. Now this is starting to make a little sense.

Stencils are great !! Good post Tony !!

I know this is an old thread...But does anyone know what wal-mart requires from their pressure washing vendors?

-$4 Million Insurance Policy
-water reclaim

Do they require workers comp? Or a minimum amount of years in business?
2 Million Insurance Policy
Workerman Comp
Reclaim yes
No Chemicials
200 Degrees hot water
3500 psi
Only documented workers
Service 7pm to 10 am (varies by store)
You must have a vendor number and you must be invited by a store to receive a request to apply for a vendor number.

Bonny at Joe Walters said they are starting to get lots of calls from their customers needing 10 Million Umbrella Policies for Walmart recently. Not sure where that came from but its overboard for sure.

Here is was the same, except we only needed 1 million Liability and had to start after 10:30pm and couldnt be there past 6 am. Here they close one entrance around that time. Wal-Mart is really busy any hours after that anyways. Here is part of a building I did for them last November
