Walk your rig!

A couple of days ago I was doing some maintenance on my equipment. I had brought my toolbox and set it on the fender of my trailer. About the time I had put up my tools and finishing up the phone rings. Well I didn't put the tool box up before I jumped in my car to go meet a client for a walk around. The next morning I left to go wash some restaraunts and the one time I didn't walk my rig before leaving the shop is the one time I left a toolbox sitting on my trailer fender. Somebody got a toolbox with about $200 worth of tools. It's a good habit to walk your rig before leaving a job site or the shop making sure everything is in its proper place and secured. Make sure you walk your rig!

Good advice and I totally agree.I do a few things like hang the ladder tie downs over the drivers door window so when we take them off we are sure to see them if the ladder is put back up but not tied down.Walk a rounds are important for sure on trailers and flatbeds.I try to recheck the load at the first stop or gas up. Cant count how many times I found a bucket, cone or tool out of palace on a walk around.

Is a good thing to do, I even put my hazards on before the walk around to check if all bulbs that should work, are working.

Especially with night work, you can be kind of groggy. Can't count how many things I've saved by walking around the rig before leaving.

To make the walk around "easier",..as the old saying states,...."A place for everything and everything in its place".

This is what I do,..and makes checking all tools are in place very easy,..just takes a glance.

I always do a walk around, then pick up my cones. Then I do a second walk around. It's important.
