We are trying out Groupon for the first time!

Obviously, this is a super low price but that is the point of Groupon you have to give 50% discount or more. We are only starting with 50 of them and we are going to try to up sell and see if its worth it. The goal is to up sell 3/4 of customers. The other benefit is these customers become our clients for life after the groupon so we see the advantages there too.

My first concerns so far are that Groupon doesn't allow you to write your own content, upload images, video, etc.

Keep in mind house washing out here is a bit easier then states with moss and mildew and the goal is to upsell. But we chose house washing specifically for the purpose of up selling to window cleaning. Sold 1 in the first couple hours it went live. So we will see.

I will keep you guys posted of the results. Wish me luck, I WILL NEED IT! haha

Good luck Ty. I've never gone the route of Groupon or any of the many companies like it, but I've talked to many others who have in our industry and owners in other industries. You are right though, to make any money on these customers, you need to upsell, upsell and upsell some more. My main worry about thinking these customers will be repeats is why would you expect or assume them to pay "regular/fair" price the next time? My feelings is they would just wait for another Groupon offer from you or anyone else.

I suspect Groupon works well(or better) for retail or restaurants because they absolutely need people to just come through the door and these "deals" gets them in. For us, much of our expense comes from the fact that we must travel to our customers.

Definitely keep us updated!

WE have a "GRABONE" here in New Zealand. I tried it a couple of times. Problem was that you didn't get the opportunity to eyeball the place before you committed to the deal. Ended up working for peanuts for some of them then GRABONE took their % off the top and the jobs ended up costing me money.
Then GRABONE decided their no sale no fee deal wasn't working for them so the started to charge a minimum fee of $250 PLUS their % off the top. If you didn't sell enough units to cover their fee you were TOTALLY SCREWED. Needless to say I stopped using them very quickly.
