Steel eagle reel pin lock coming loose

I hand a pin lick on my steel eagle comr loose while driving on a 5 mile tall bridge a week ago. Notice the trailer didn't pull right. Looked back and I could see a flat on my tandem from my side view mirror. Look in the rear view abd I could see one of my reels was empty. I was dragging 250' of hose. Ran over the ball valve is what caused the flat. Only damage was a tire ball valve and a mosmatic swivel. I thought I didn't secure it. Turns out I have found it out of the lick and stow position abd waiting to back out of the reel a couple of times. I'm trying to think of an easy fix as I have four of these reels. I installed one of the spring pin locks on the opposite side of mine. It's one of the ones that come on a Cox reel but steel eagle carries them.

THX CHAD!

Do you lock both?? Or just the spring loaded one? I may get some of them and cut the old ones off... ( I know i Can rig it.... but zip ties on $1200 worth of reels infuriates me!)

summit makes one that bolts on.....call russ

Matt, if I could lock both then I wouldn't need the spring lock lol.
I had the same experience you did, but it was going up my driveway and I was only dragging about 50' of hose.
Sorry about your tire, hose, swivel etc. that's sucks.

Saw on a previous post some time back a suggestion was made to mount a quick connect to the trailer frame somewhere handy and lock the end of the hose into that once the hose is on the reel. Wouldn’t unwind that way.

That was me that told Matt to do that. If he would've listened then this never would've happened lol.

I think you experienced one thing that alot of us fear while driving down the road and prays that it never happens to us Matt. I agree though with what other guys are saying about using the quick connect or so hose won't come undone on you while driving though.

I have the same problem with my steel eagle hose reels. We just tuck the last few feet of hose back through the frame of the hose reel.

I do the exact same thing with mine as well.
