Soda ash vs SH?

Just curious about what the difference is. Soda ash (Na2CO3) I can get for free, so I just wondering how it would compare to sodium Hydroxide solution. I will use it for cleaning concrete as a booster for my detergent.

Thank you

Soda Ash (AKA Sodium Carbonate) and commonly used in brands like Arm & Hammers Super Washing Soda for cleaning woodwork and such around the home.
No comparison to Sodium Hydroxide in cleaning power,..especially with the performance needed in regards to concrete cleaning.
In my experience,..Soda Ash doesn't dissolve near as easily as Sodium Hydroxide neither.

*I assume you "SH" reference meant Sodium Hydroxide,..around here SH is commonly used for Sodium Hypochlorite.

sorry yes sodium hydroxide. Gets hot in water and makes your hands very slimy when you wash it off.

Ok I will stick with Sodium hydroxide.

Thank you

Always wear nitrile or latex gloves when "handling" Sodium Hydroxide. Even regular gloves are better than none. A dust mask is always a good idea as well and also long sleeves or gloves and eye protection. Those little dust particles are like needles in the eye or on sweaty skin.

i do where all the proper safety equipment, after the first time I learned real quick.

Do you have any suggestions on how to keep it in powder form? It seems to get solid and hard after exposed to the moisture in the air and for lack of a better word Melt itself. I was thinking about finding a container that I can pull a vacuum so I don't have to try and beat it into chunks.

Final question what is the difference between beads and pearls. I get a fine powder similar to ash. Looking for a better way.

Thank you

this is what we use, air tight. 50lbs of caustic fits in two 5gal buckets.

I like those but they only last about a year, the sun beats down on them and causes the plastic to start cracking, just like most buckets and lids.
