slow down , do not learn the hard way

I prefer the heavier cotton lined pvc gloves when doing roof work. Reason is you can turn them up to form a cuff so that chem doesn't run down your arm when spraying a roof from the gutter line.

Most people do not know 12.5 Bleach will have spontaneous combustion in the proper conditions. My boss saw first hand when he wiped some up with paper towels then threw them in the trash. I was just a matter of minutes before I saw smoke. Everyone needs to learn about the products they are using. Sometimes a little knowledge about chemicals is more dangerous than no knowledge at all. This is why I have always discouraged homemade chemistry. I believe in using products that are proven to be effective with safety always being first.

This post is for the new guys/gals that think " its no big deal ". I was recently working a job and was way running behind and just wanted to get it over with. this is 1 minutes worth of a 1 to 10 mix of 121/2 sh and water with 8 ounces of roof snot. with five minutes of rinsing after heres the end result. these chems are a necessary evil, we need them but we must not mess with them.

Could you please share with us how long it took to heal? Also, would you please share pictures of your hands now ?

Sure thing Steve. First I must admit that there was a lot more time then one minute with sh running down my hand from a leaking gun more like 30 minutes. and it was probably 40% sh. I ignored it thinking everything would be ok, I was way behind ( meaning underbid ) why I said what I said in my original post I don't know, maybe I didn't want to look like an idiot, (though everyone probably had that figured out anyway ). But I did want everyone to see what could happen. I am sorry to everyone for my misleading post. the hand took about two weeks to heal with no scars. I am very very careful of chems now. and my bidding has improved significantly.

Many of those here that have known me for a long time can most likely remember the pictures I posted over 10 years ago. I went to move a drum of chemical with a loose bung top. The chemical had a heavy concentration of Sodium Hydroxide. Long story short, some got on my leg and I rinsed with a garden hose causing it to run in my boot. 30 minutes later it was burning resulting with a hole in my leg that took 3 months to heal leaving a scar. That is one of the reasons I stress safety from time to time, never forget! We have all made a mistake at some time with chemicals.
