siding cleaning

I am rather new to the industry and would appreciate some feedback on the following pricing related matter.

A customer asked me to provide a bid for cleaning the siding on a townhouse development. The specifics are generally as follows: 2 story structure; vinyl siding; 23' front and 23' back; in groups of from 2 to 8 individual town homes; fairly soiled but not stained; there are 265 individual townhouses.

Generally speaking what sort of price would you give on a "per townhouse" basis? You feedback would greatly help.

Incidentally, I have already lost the bid to someone else in the MD area. I would like to compare your prices to his. (which I will post after hearing some of your comments. Thanks in advance for your responses.

$2 per lin.ft measure all 4 sides extra for sidewalks, decks, and gutters
the decks[if any] will get your cleaner on them and will need to be cleaned as well so add for just a quick wash on them if your not contracted to do them sep. from the wash job.
where did the other guy get the water from?

Thanks for your input. I used a similar formula to calculate a bid. Each building has two 23' sides. (46') Each set of buildings have two ends. (30 * 2 = 60) Building sets vary between 2 townhouses per to 8 per.

I did not think about the deck factor, although most did not have such in this occasion.

Using your suggested calculation method, your per townhouse price would be at least $100.00 per, would it not?

The company that got it bid less than $40.00 per! And they are a rather big company that does landscaping asnd power washing. Am I wrong or is their pricing structure real suspect?

Thanks again for your reply.

I would think around $60 for a middle unit, and $95 for an end unit..........thats pricing I would consider if I were looking at that many units...........

I'm curious what that guy bid......

landscapers

that guy bid $10,000 for the whole job.
figure $1500 for the fuel,soap
4 men with 4 wash units doing 25 units each day [each]
about 3 days work
manpower $1500-$2000
his co. made $6500 in 3 days then the co. expsenses
1 man show [owner oper.] same $ for everything but the help your there for 3 weeks
its a pain in the butt to get people not to park where your going to wash, on the day your going to wash that set of condos. Your so tired you cant raise a fork at night to eat your wet and working 10 hours a day.
If that other guy could line up jobs like this all the time he would make a better living then the 1 man show and never get wet.
big jobs are best left to the big guys
im sorry for posting the first time i dont do any jobs that big and should have kept my mouth shut.
sorry
