security issues

Hello,

Just a quick security question. I am looking at buying an open trailer setup vs. an enclosed trailer setup. I live in a regular suburban area and am wondering if having the open trailer setup would invite someone to steal my pressure washer or other equipment off it while its parked in my driveway at night? What have you found to be the case in your situation? Thanks so much for your insight.

Chris

Securly mount everything and lock up the smaller equipment, use common sense. Remember, locks only keep honest people honest!

I believe you have two seperate issues based on where you live, the one you asked about and cold weather.

I use an open trailer and almost everything is bolted or welded down. Again as Grant said it only keeps the honest people honest. Someone that wants something bad enough will get it no matter what.

Now on the cold issue I believe most, not all but most pressure washers in your part of the country use enclosed trailers with vents for the exhaust and other dangerous gases and things.

I keep my trailer in the driveway also. I try to keep everything locked up but If someone wanted it bad enough thay could take the trailer and all. I just got a new washer that is on wheels and take it off at the end of the day. I'm sure as time goes by and it gets older, I will just throw my tarp over it like my other washer.

motion sensor lighting and get a motorcycle alarm system. The MC alarm works off a murcury switch, very low voltage and you can get it with a beeper system that will page you if someone try's to move your machine. I would also tarp it.
locking studs on wheels and run a chain from one wheel to the other. The harder you make it the more likely a crook will move on.
insure your rig against theft.

Welded down or not, they can still vandalize it.

I rent a garage 3/4 mile away from my house. I know my trailer is always dry and safe, and it is money well spent. It costs me $200 per month.

In the winter, it takes a long time before the garage starts freezing over..........for example, in November, when it starts going below freezing at night, you would normally have to winterize the washer every night, but with it in the garage, I don't have to do it until at least December.
