I'm sure these boys will be glad to hear some positive thoughts.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't HCL etch glass? I wouldn't go and spray it on the windows. I believe it is also known as an oxidizer, which is perfect if your goal is to prematurely rust the doors off the truck cabs.

HCL will etch glass but it takes the right condition to do so. Here are some factors that usually will cause the glass to get etched: an old windshield, letting the acid dry and too high of a concentration. And I believe any acid is going to oxidize and rust. They key is to use the right blend of acid for two stepping.

etching of windsheid

your right about the glass! poured strong acid purposely on old truck windsheild at the wrecking yard and and it is coulered but my recipe is 30% hcl and 10% phosphoric plus surfactent-diluted to a specific ratio and i try to stay away from windsheilds but i tried my recipe on my own 78 bronco and 02 sunfire, and its all good! everything downstreemed thanx for the info steve

Hey Steve, if you're going to stay with HCL I would recommend cooling the surface of the glass and paint before washing or you will end up with damaged glass, regardless of how you dilute. Also, don't forget to ever let it dry on the surface, always neutralize with your alkaline soap, and don't underestimate the value of a good rinse! Best of luck!
