Power Options

Would you prefer a generator, or a power inverter running off a seperate battery in the back of the truck? If you had a battery in the back of the truck, how would you recharge it? Any way to hook it up to the truck's alternator, etc?

My garage has electricity, I could have a battery charger permanently mounted in the truck and plug the truck in at night....

I'd rather not have a generator, because of expense, and it's one more thing to break down.....

I want to power a flourescent light to be mounted on the ceiling, and miscellaneous things like shurflo pumps and power tools.

You can always use twelve volt systems. You can also run a second battery off of the engine. You can get 12 volt Flourescents from an RV Supply house, you can get mirrors and other stuff there, too. Try Camping world or somethign similar.

Mike,
I have an inverter that takes 12v and converts it to 110v.

1000 watts 2000 watts peak, low battery shut down ect., circuit breaker, two outlets.

Wires into a 12 volt battery or 24 volt system.

This is not a Walmart set up. Actualy used by the U.S. Army in their repair vehicles.

Sold one to my neighbor who is a truck driver. He loves it. Can microwave his food and run the tv and vcr without any problems.

I am going to install one in my enclosed trailer.

Mike,

You have seen my set-up, I use a generator with that. Never a problem, good piece of equipment to have. I have also used it when electric was needed in doing repairs on jobs and there was electric needed. If you work at nights doing any fleets or anything and you need to run lights, great thing to have.

inverter tie's your rig to the job.
Gen can be left at job.
inert can draw your truck battery down.
Gen is loud
Gen can be used for your home
gen take's up space.
www.theepicenter.com build your own gen.

I have a 12 volt pump cart
i have a very large ind 12 volt battery to run a wash down 12 volt pump
i have a gen to power light's and have reg plug in recepticals.
You can add a second gen to your truck where the airconditioner pump would go.
Seem's im not much of a help.

Guy's

You missed Mikes point. He said he really does not want to purchase a generator right now.

The invertor I spoke about has low battery shut down. This means if your truck is turned off you can still use use the invertor.

The battery is charged by your trucks electical system.

If you draw it down it shuts off and allows you to have power for starting. Depending on what you are running this may mean 1-6+ hours.

No noise, vetilation, fuel ect. to worry about. Just conveniance.
Going to add a microwave and one of the freonless frigs.

I also have an electric start 5k generator in my enclosed trailer.

My shurflow sprayer is also 12 volt. I charge it every 4-6 weeks.

12 volts would also be more than enough for interior lighting.

Hey I guess it is whatever floats your boat!

In a trailer type set-up like I have, I put a battery box on the front of the trailer. I run a wire from the hot pin (#4) on a seven way plug, to the hot on the battery. This sends a charge to the battery when the truck is running. At the same time, it allows me to disconnect the trailer and still maintain lighting.

Mike in your situation with a box van, why not run some 12 volt lighting and add another battery in sequence with the first one. Physically it should be somewhere there's ventilation.

Good luck with it.
