Need Help on Bidding

There are a couple of jobs that I have been trying to get for a couple months now, but keep running into a snag. The bosses kids are doing them. One account is a frozen food outfit with 15 vans, they are filthy. I watched these kids do them once before, I couldn't believe what I saw. They hooked up a garden hose to the faucect and simply splashed water on them. They didn't even use a trigger, or soap and a brush. The other account is for Pepsi. They have approx 60 vehicles. Whenever I see these rigs in town they look like they might get rinsed off once a month. How do I market to these places without telling the boss his kids are doing an awful job?
Thanks for al the help

Creative bidding

Andy-

I am not the grand marketing guru everyone makes me out to be so keep in mind this is not a suggestion just an idea. Bounce it off a few people and gather some other opinions.

You could approach the owner of the frozen food plant (lets call him Papa) and tactfully mention that you noticed his fleet was not as clean as you think it could be.

Ask him to think about who his three biggest accounts are. Don't ask specifically who they are, he might be offended. Offer to clean the trucks that deliver to those accounts free to show him that you can provide a much better service than he has right now. (as if you have no idea who it is).

If he lets you do the demo, you are in!

When you clean the trucks leave a note for the driver. . .

"I was here to clean your truck today." "Please let me know if you have any special need or concerns for future cleanings."

Thanks,

If you really want to go over board leave an air freshener (cherry) and leave check box's on the thank you note for them to pick their favorite scent to replace the cherry next (month, week, 2 weeks, etc.)

These notes will get back to Papa.

I'll think about the Pepsi account.

Best of Luck

It reads as tho boss owns both, frozen food and Pepsi,if so maybe daddy is having the kids earn their spending money and up bringing to learn from bottom up.

If so your really not taking business from someone else but out of daddys pocket, which is some of the hardest business to get.I agree with Russell's great ideals but don't know if I would say they are not as clean as they could be,your putting down the bosses kids by saying that,it could be a turn off b/c he knows they aren't as clean as they should be but his kids are trying and earning money, sorta keeping things in the family.

May need to think more where the kids could help out more with the business besides washing dirty trucks, like packing, shipping, checking orders. In other words try to get him to step the kids up to more important things in his business.Your not wanting to just kick them off the pay roll but trying to help further them in the trade,,,ask him if it isn't time to bring the kids on the inside out of the heat and cold and let you do the dirty work.

Andy, I would just stop in and ask if i could demo one van for free. I would also make sure that i 2-step the van, That will always get them thinking how you got it looking that good.

Pepsi- They get there trucks washed once a week here. I know they wont pay alot, I think they are paying about $6.00 a truck and $9.00 a trailer but it is every week (fri) and they wash them at 3:00 am. But there is alot of them to do, so it may be worth it to do?
