How to properly close a lid.

Was finishing up a deck strip today, had a 5 gallon bucket with about 2 gal worth of hydroxide stripper. set the lid on and used my foot to tap it down, the lid was brittle as hell and my foot went right thru! I riped my shoe & sock off and rinsed, rinsed, rinsed. What really hurt is that the lid cut my shin and fresh stripper was all over it. :banghead:

Most of the time the buckets are in good shape for a year or sometimes a few years where the lids get brittle, the pour spouts crack and break and you risk accidents like that happening or worse.

You can order replacement lids for less than $2.00 each with the pour spout. I order lids all the time to replace old bucket lids, get a rubber mallet to secure the lids.

I get mine from USPlastic.

HOME DEPOT buckets are good only for this :)))

This seems like a good time to remind everyone about the need to neutralize stripper that gets on your skin. Rinsing repeatedly will not keep the SH from causing a burn. SH is a flesh eater. Neutralize with oxalic if that's all you have. Vinegar works, even Coca-Cola in a pinch. My suggestion is to throw-out the shoe, the stripper will reactivate and burn your foot.
