Run TV commercials? If so, how did they do for you and what was the basis of the content?

The first year I was in business I had done one but it was on the wrong channel to the wrong potential clients and had no good marketing message. We learn from our mistakes.

I made a deal with the owner of a local tv station that I found out later on they only play music videos, mostly are in spanish and the commercial did not have a good marketing message.

Knowing what I know now, I would put it on the Home and Garden TV channel or something similar and have a good message in it and definately show the B/A pics, website address, and try to keep it interesting so they do not get bored.

If you can get on a talk show, that would be great because they would show the commercial and people or the hose could ask questions. I think a guy from Houston did that. I wonder how his response was?

I did and it did not seem to be worth the money.

Ditto on radio commercials. $3000.00 per month to hit during Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity for commercial filter service. ZERO. They all tell you it takes time, but after a few months I had only gotten 3 inquiries on commercial and about 20 residential inquiries which I don't even do.

I'm talking about other business interests I've had but I'd rank local TV cable ads as the least bang for the buck ever.

The main thing I look at as far as advertising is how long do you see the current advertisers repeating. In other words were they on there last year? If their 3 month campaign worked well ether they got so much work they had to stop advertising (not likely but possible) or it was a bust. I have a couple of ways I test success before I run ads and waste money.

The only residential we are focusing on is roofs so I'm working a spring campaign now.

I forgot to mention that my commercial was supposed to run for 12 days, 2 times a day.

The owner of the station was a good neighbor next door to my Grandfather who had just passed away so I went and cleaned up the house, sidewalk, back sidewalk, back patio and driveway and the neighbor stood outside for about 30 minutes watching as we were finishing up the job.

The next day the neighbor came and talked to my mom who was taking care of the estate and wanted my info and called me.

I worked out a deal with him and he ended up giving me 3 months instead of 12 days, what a great guy!

I did not get any calls from that station but friends told me that they saw the commercial.

Next time, if there is a next time, it would have to be for the right audience and channel and the right message.
