Those of you who have facebook pages for your business, what kind of page did you make? A regular one that people can befriend you on, or on that they have to hit "Like" to become a fan? If the latter, how do you invite people to become a fan?

FaceBook personal account (where you add friends and vice-versa) is not public information and does not get indexed by the search engines. The only thing that gets indexed is your name and "facebook".
The Fan page or business page is public information and everything posted there is getting indexed by the search engines.
The good thing about having a personal account (by personal I mean your business name) is that if you invite someone to join your "friends circle" and he/she adds you, he/she will more likely pay attention to you and what you do and further more his/hers friends will know for your existence.

I would suggest, you create a personal account first and then make (as admin or creator) as many fan pages as you like from your personal account with variety of attractive titles.

SEO: I personally do not believe that FaceBook is a good SEO tool for our business field. The people in FaceBook are not really interested in anything else but chatting and looking pictures. Those who really spend lots of time in FaceBook are mainly teenagers.
On the other hand it never hurts to put your name on another FREE social network with high traffic.
 
Scoot D you can actually make a page under your personal account. You can make a business account by clicking here
and then when it asks you if you already have a current account it will prompt you to put in your current account info
It will make a page thats connected to you when you want to manage the page click on account in the top right hand corner and it will bring up the page.

I just have to say that all kinds of people are on myspace and facebook not just teenagers I know 16-50 year old people who have a face book or myspace I think that people who are on facebook and myspace do look up information while there on the site.

I do agree with that :). I wanted to point out things in terms of Search Engine Optimization. Google likes external links from websites with related content.
For example: Account in LinkedIn which is business social network will bring much stronger SEO than FaceBook. Even though there are always original ways to attract "1000" people with originally titled Fan Page in FaceBook, and if one of them gets to buy the service through the point of sale, it's worth it :).
