Converting from a Key Switch to a Push Button Switch and Toggle Switch. Just wanted to share this. I have converted Vanguard 16hp and Honda 18hp and 20hp from Key Switch to a Push Button Switch and Toggle Switch. Here is how I did it.

Great idea. So is the toggle for shutting it off? Or did you covert 2 machines 1 PB 1 toggle? Push button start is great. no more leaving the key on and killing your battery. I just did that

That is a great idea John, thanks for sharing it.

Have a question for you John.

John, there are those low level switches out there that you can install in your water tank so that if the level gets too low it can shut off your engine, how would you connect those to 21hp Vanguards and 20 hp Honda engines so it will turn them off if the water level in the tank gets too low and the switch activates?

Thank You.

I use Regular Float switches, Normally closed for the Vanguard. One wire to Ground and the other to the Kill wire located on the right hand side of the engine near the top. For a Honda I use a Normally Open float and hook it between the yellow wire and the Black and Yellow wire so it cuts off the fuel when the float is down.

The Toggle cuts off the engine voltage and grounds the coil and cuts off voltage at the same time and will not allow the power to be on unless you flip it up again.

John, is there a brand that you recommend/use?

Where can they be bought or do you sell them?

How much are they?

Can you rig up several machines to one float switch or do you need a switch for every machine?

Thanks.

if they all have the same engine you can hook all of them to the switch but you would need relays for different engine types.

Check your Local Hotsy Dealer for the Float. Sometimes Home Depot Lowes etc carries them.
