CHDCA members

Greaser of the Year
I was just informed today that my lifetime membership to CHDCA is no longer valid. I am no longer certified and I don't know what to do. Evidently the rules changed with the certification and I wasn't notified...I have talked to many other CHDCA certified people and they knew nothing about this either.

They are now requiring 10 sets of before/after pictures of your work, proof of insurance and letters of reference each year to keep your certification active. I think this is a good step in the right direction for an organization. I am happy to see them doing this. I'm glad to see that The Grease Police has led the way and changed an organization's certification rules.

You other CHDCA certified members: Have you sent in your photos or are you no longer certified as well?

There's been times that I thought I wouldn't last for long But now I think I'm able to carry on It's been a long, long, long time coming But I know a change is gonna come

Dear Anthony,

Just to clarify, your Lifetime Membership is still valid, and you are still an important member of our organization.

Josh Dodson, president of the Grease Police and one of the founding members of the CHDCA, attended our last CHDCA meeting and advocated along with the other members that were in attendance, that they didn't want the Certification to last a lifetime. (Just to clarify, the certification has always only been valid for 1 year, it's just that it automatically renewed each year without you having to submit pictures and proof of insurance). That's why your certification was valid up until this year when it expired and you were notified of the new renewal requirements.

Many options were discussed, and it was suggested, discussed and voted by the members that they wanted the certification to only be valid for 12 months, and that the process of 10 sets of before/after pictures and proof of insurance was required to continue your certification. This sorts out those that are actively cleaning grease exhaust systems vs those that aren't doing the kind of quality work that is expected to remain certified.

Now as a Lifetime Member, the annual recertification fee is waived and there is NO cost to renew your certification each year as a Lifetime member. That means, that you, Anthony, as a Lifetime Member, have no cost to you to renew your certification.

Our Annual members, have to pay $250 per year to renew their certification and membership each year.

So, we value each member's input, because the CHDCA is an association of certified hood and duct cleaners, just like yourself.

We appreciate all that you have done to further your education and you have always been a shining example of what a professional kitchen grease exhaust cleaner should be.

Thanks,

Russell Clark

PS... if any member wants to know if they are an Annual member (Associate) vs Lifetime member, simply look at your certificate and embossed in the gold foil it will indicate "Lifetime Member" vs "Associate Member".
