Building New Rig

Just recenly picked my new enclosed trailer and getting ready to install everything. My initial thought was to have the 300gal tank inside the trailer but after taking some measurments its going to be a little crowded in there 12ft trailer. My question is can i put the tank in the back of the pickup? The water line will be above the pump but will the pump pull the water that far or am i going to cavitate the pump doing that? ALSO what is a good water filter to purchase i see some people have them for 300.00+ dollars and some sell for 40.00$ is there that much of a price span on filters?

Jeff,
I run a 220 gal tank in my trailer, but there are times when I need more water and the client doesn't have a water hook-up, so I also run a 325 gal tank in my pick-up. My pressure washer is toward the back of my trailer, so I first tried just running a hose off from the tank in the pick-up to the pump (it was about 20-22') and let it gravity feed the pump, but that didn't work to well, the water couldn't keep up with the pump. By the way I run a 3000 psi 5.5 gpm machine. I put a 'y' in the line before the filter and feed the pump with both tanks at the same time (still gravity feeding) and that works great. I have heard of (but don't much about them yet) booster pumps that will keep a good flow of water from the tank to the pump. Also make sure your pick-up is capable of carrying that much weight.

Jeff,
I have a 465 gal tank that I put on the back of my daully pickup when needed. Most times I don't need that tank so I also have a 100 gal tank also that I can throw on the back of my truck when needed. Both tanks I have no problem with doing this since they aren't to heavy. The bigger tank I just gently slide off the truck or back on when needed. The 100 gal tank I just pick it up and put it on or off.

I also have a 12' enclosed trailer and a large tank will take up to much room. And believe me no one is going to steal a water tank off your truck in less there completly insane. I also have a water line that does go into my trailer from those tanks that I hardly ever use because the 2 PW's in my trailer are on wheels and I just role them out when needed. My big landa Hot water PW is on my truck where it stays most of the season and it sits right next to my tanks. Between the 465gal tank and the 700 lb pw the total weight when the tank is full(water weighs 8.4lbs/gal) I'm lugging around 4600lbs in the back of my truck. Thats 600lbs over the wieght capacity. According to Dodge since my truck is a dually/diesel they say I can put in 6000lbs in the back of that truck even though the charts say don't put in more then 4000lbs. I may leave it 65gal. of water so Im pretty much at the capacity the chart calls for.

Either way your trailer will fill up fast with equipment tools etc. where a tank in there will only get in the way.

I was hoping to be able to put the tank in the truck AND GRAVITY feed the pump. 4.7gpm 3500psi. But from what iam reading here sounds like it may not work. The tank will be about 20ft from the pump, washer will be in rear of trailer

Jeff, If you feel the need to put the tank in your truck I would install a transfer pump in the line. Install the pump close to the pressure washer with a check valve between the pump and your pressure washer pump with a flow regular at the inlet of pressure washer pump. Home Depot has a Flotec pump model # FPOF360AC (110V) that will deliver the amount of water to feed your machine. I beleive this pump will pump up to 8gpm. This is why you need to install the pressure regulator. If you need help feel free to call me.

Jeff,
Your talking about putting your PW by the back of the trailer. No problem but make sure that when you unhook your trailer the weight is equally dispersed in your trailer or your trailer will tip and that can be dangerous.

As far as your PW being 20 ft from the water tank Steven has a real good Idea. My PW's are never more then a few ft from my water tank so I don't have to add a pump. One of these days I will post my set up.

Good Luck

Wouldn't a 2in. line take care of the gravity from truck to powerwasher, reduce down at the pump.

Thats what i was thinking BIGBOY. My unit came with a 3 way ball valve one side is float tank the other is 11/2 inlet for remote tank. I guess i will hook it up and try it
