Before and After Behr Stripping of Deck

That's impressive nice job!

Was it stripped after 1hr 1 time or multiple strips? Was this the solvent stripper?

Why they sell that crap i'll never know why? How they expect you to maintain that keep on coating it on making it worse? SMH

I thought it would be a 2 strip project. Got lucky on this one I guess, amazing what 15 minutes more made. I used a sodium hydroxide based stripper on this. One contractor walked away from it and when he did he told the homeowner to call me he heard that I was the best one to get it off. Nice when another contractor refers you. When the HO went to buy some wood for repairs the owner of the lumber yard refereed me as well. At that point the job was mine.

Tell us what you told the homeowner that sold the job.

hey everett i have a 20x40 deck at my house and i have behrs stain on it (orange) and ive tried f 18 and severe strip with little or no results. i almost embarressed to speak of it. my own deck has broken me down. i didnt keep it on for one hour like you did, but i let it sit for 40 minutes. what is the exact name of the product that you used (and where can i get it) how exactly did you apply it and what about it drying. thanks

I use my own which is Deck Restoration Plus Deck & Wood Stripper, it is a sodium hydroxide based stripper. It is very effective and have had a lot of luck with it on coatings like Behr and Sikkens. The handyman who was working on this deck told the homeowner that I had a stripper that took it off which was a help in getting the job. Don't get me wrong there is some sanding on the deck but we got 90% or better off of the deck with one strip. We misted it for at least an hour on the entire deck. The deck is very big and we did it in sections. Have you tried adding sodium hydroxide to your stripper for these jobs to just give it a little boost? If not try a longer dwell time for these hard to get coatings. I have used the solvent based strippers on these and they work too but WAY more expensive. The stripper was applied with pump up sprayers.
