Any computer geniuses out there?

Currently I am unable to attach or upload files to email, facebook, photobucket, etc...

I do know how to upload, and have done so in the past. Currently I am not able to attach estimates when I email customers. I am not able to upload photos to facebook unless I do it from my phone.

When I attempt to attach a file through gmail, internet explorer takes a dump closes the tab then reopens. Through yahoo, it just will not upload same as facebook.

This may be a virus issue, however the virus software I use is not picking anything up. Any help, thoughts, etc...would greatly be appreciated.

Do you have access to another computer similar to yours that's not having the issue? If so and you feel comfortable opening up the box (CPU), you can take the drive out of yours, put it in the second box as a slave drive and run virus software on it from there.

Some malware will actually shutdown your virus software to prevent it from being detected.

Another idea is to boot your computer in 'safe mode' and do a full, complete and exhaustive virus, malware scan from there. Be sure to have the latest updates to your virus software first.

What Red Said....Do you use another browser besides IE?

Sound like your pc needs a refreshed windows or restored from a factory disk. back up all the info you need.

Which windows you running Vista?

Restore is the way to go on a fresh copy of windows fixes so many problems.

Keenan, what size USB hard drives did you use? I need to do a full factory reset with my laptop.
I was thinking 8gb?
Sounds like all you need is a system restore to fix your issue. Did you already do that?

Chad, I have not done it yet. I do not have any blank DVDs and while I trust my USB backups, I do not trust them completely. I can deal with losing some of our documents, but we have a bunch of photos that we would be upset if we lost like our wedding, trip to Africa, etc...

I have to check on the size, I think my wife's old backup is 80gb but it is full. Mine which is newer is I think 120gb. Mine should have plenty of room, but I will be backing up to disks and the USB harddrive just in case the hardrive gets corrupted. Will be doing the full restore tomorrow after I back everything up.

If you or anyone else has their own domain and root access, you can always use that for data storage for important stuff. Make a new directory and password protect it. You can use FTP or a web interface to access your files at any time and the host does routine backups.

Sounds like a hard drive problem. But if attaching files is the only problem, could be a virus. New viruses come out every day and anti virus software can only do so much. I would restore, just back up everything you need. I have two, 4 tb (terabytes) (4000 gigabytes) so when I have a problem, I can copy the files that I need and start over from scratch. Depending on what version of windows you have (or Mac ewww!), you can buy just enough storage space on a thumb drive to backup your files, without losing a thing. Solid state hard drives are more reliable. (And more expensive) hope this helps.
