Roof Cleaning is a great business.
Unfortunately, it is a service that must be sold.
It is far easier to sell pressure washing.
People will clean their home and driveway in my experience before their roof.
Many are on apathy about their roof, and mistakenly believe that "nothing can be done".
You MUST change this belief, or you will not be successful in roof cleaning.
Back 15 years ago when I started, roof cleaning was a hard sell, even in Florida.
In a new market, you need demo homes with yard signs.
I would get up early on a weekend Sat or Sunday, and drive around nice area's.
When I saw people outside, I would stop.
Armed with my portfolio, I tried to get them to let me do a free, no obligation demo.
I told them I was looking to work in this area, and needed "showcase" houses.
IF they agreed to let me clean their roof, and place a sign, I would give them an additional discount.
I had NO money for ads, flyers, etc, etc, etc.
I did it the old fashioned way, I talked to people.
Post cards are the best mail piece, people actually SEE them.
Ads are ok, IF there is an existing market ?
And ONLY IF a lot aren't already advertising.
If the market does not exist, you have to develop it.
And, that means a LOT of hard work, out beating the bushes.
But it will be worth it, in the long run.
It takes about 5 years to really get established.
Until then, ya gotta work hard.
But ONE day, you will be able to kick back, and your business will grow and grow as word of mouth takes over.
Great info! Wish I'd found this thread back in May!
