Won't affect it at all. These type reports, especially Brian Hansen's from NBC, are out every year. Local news stations also do there own frequently, they are forgotten about the very next day, along with about 90% of the rest of yesterday's news.

Greg, IMO Yes they do. Believe me I am speaking from first hand experience on this. I am from Florida, and these things used to be on the local news in Tampa everyday almost, especially involving Air Conditioning Companies. Never hurt the AC companies one bit. There may be a couple of people that do, but the majority do not. Plus the scammers know how to turn it right around to their advantage.

You are right about Scammers in Tampa! I have this video, and another roof cleaning scam up on a post on my roof cleaning blog to try and warn people. Zinc Strips are another roof cleaning scam, that are useless as balls on a priest here in Tampa. We have every crook and con man in the world operating here in Florida.

I saw it and wondered how 150 people could fall for these guys ( not all were roof cleaning jobs) They looked "ruff" to me yet they had a good closing ratio for door to door sales. Nobody buys a service from somebody they don't trust so obviously they had a pretty good pitch.

I think in elderly communities Gypsies run scams, people fall for them everyday. In Arizona we have soliciting laws that prevent these types of crimes. Door to door sales requires daily permits in some cities. Often background checks are done to obtain them and the community knows you had better have that badge while soliciting.

One of the things we can do, and I do here in my area of Kingwood, TX is get to know your residential clients on a personal basis. Let them know that they contact YOU for anything that they need done inside or outside their home. I ahve a list of reputable, insured, and highly skilled companies every field. These are guy's and gal's that have been in their business for many years, are active and known in the community, always show up for appointments on time and retunr every phone call.

Every one of my customers has a list of these companies that I refer, and every one of these companies has a list with my name on it too. (Networking). For some cusotmers I even have a realtive's contact info just in case I need it.

Was this in Houston at all?

I did not see it last night, but that sounds like a replay of the Dateline broadcast a few weeks back. If it was, those guys were in Vegas if I'm not mistaken.
