We were shut down today!

Well sort of.... While washing a government backed apartment complex today a hud inspector showed up and blew his top over us using bleach to clean with. He asked for msds which I had in the truck. He refused to listen to reason while I tried to explain our cleaning process and how the sh was diluted. he implied strongly that we needed to stop cleaning until he had answers.

He demanded that I call my chemical supplier and have them send over an msds that shows our housewash mix at the strength we are applying it. I knew that wasnt happening so I made a few calls to get some other opinions (thanks guys).

The responses I got ranged from Whats the big deal to give them the msds then tell them to get out of the way before you get sprayed. I was also told that he didnt have any right to shut us down. He and the property owners could request the msds.

By the time I got through on the phone the guys had everything wrapped up so I walked over to talk to him one more time and ask What exactly do you need from me. By this time he was more reasonable and told me that he needed to know what we were using and at what strength. I think that he overreacted when he saw "bleach" . I think he realized what I was telling him about it being diluted.

SO when I got back to the house I put together a short letter explaining what we are using and its dilution ratios. Talked to him after I faxed it over and everything seems fine. He even told me that we didnt even have to leave today. (yeah right, that was made clear right off the bat)
I really think he overreacted and went on a power trip then calmed down. We are headed back tommorrow. I sure hope thats the end of that.

I just had to share.

Tell him it's the same stuff used in city water systems and swimming pools to kill harmful germs and bacteria.

Don't leave containers of anything where they can be seen without an effort. I'm not saying to refuse if asked but sometimes you're better off dummying up. These people get a business card with a title and they have to act important.

The dentist uses it when you get a root canal. I'll bet its stronger too...they put that right in your mouth.

I have learned the hard way you never ever tell anybody your using "bleach" maybe sodium hyperclorite but never say bleach. the reaction is always bad. People either think that your going to ruin what your washing by "bleaching it out" or they think why the hell am i paying you xxx per hr to apply somthing i can buy at walmart.

Hopefully this inspector had his fun and will let us be. If not hopefully the Rcia Uamcc or Pwna can help. We are members of all three.

At first I tried to explain to him how diluted the stuff actually is. He didnt have any of that but later on when I compared it to chlorine in a swimming pool he lightened up. I do have two containers on the front of my trailer. One has no labels and is for water. So its my fault for that.

I used sodium hypochlorite when talking with him. The msds on 12% would freak me out too If I didnt know what was going on or that it was being diluted down to 2% and then diluted more with an 8gpm rinsing.

Most HUD inspectors would be happy to see a building being cleaned.

Thats what I was thinking. In the past I have been hired because HUD said they had to clean it. Sounds like he was having a bad day and wanted to feel important.
