DAY 1

Greetings:

Well as some of you may already know, Chris Chappell from Superior Power Washing, is here in Sarasota taking a 3 day class with me on the wonderful world of kitchen cleaning.

I gota say he is getting it really good, he has a good grasp on the program and I think will be very successful with it, I think that he has really found his niche. We did a mock sales call with a GM that I already service, and Chris did really great, and not to mention we sold $500.00 more service for this month to this client just by doing this mock sales call...not too shabby!!

Well OK so day one was Sunday 8/1/2010, we left the Tampa RT around 3pm and we headed south for my part of the woods Sarasota, well we got a great deal on a great hotel a definite score, well we go and check in and they say "we only have rooms with one bed, but it does have a pull out couch" so after some moaning and groaning we say OK and proceed to our room, Will I guess that I was just really tired cause I walked in and proceeded to put my bags on the bed, well I look back and Chris is still standing by the door, and I say come on in, he says HOLY CRAP, someone is already in this room!!!!!! I look around and also say HOLY CRAP!!!!! Well as it turns out the room was already rented!!!!! The womans clothes were all over and the bathroom had all of her stuff strewn about, so I say lets get out of here and go get another room, well Chris says heck no, lets steal her underwear and negligee and then we go. (OF COURSE THATS A JOKE) (:)rotflmao:chris just took her socks:rotflmao:))

So OK we go back downstairs and tell them of the ingredious mistake, and they promptly give us another room, only this time the GM comes to the room with us, so during our trip to the room the GM asks what we do and I told him about my services and what not , and he just gave me that Uh HUH look that we are all familiar with, so anyway we get to the room and the GM walks us in and we chatted a bit about the hotel business, he told me that the hotel was only 1 year old and wouldn't need to be cleaned for a vary long time, so i says OK, and walk to the window to look at the skyline of Sarasota, well while looking out my 6th floor window what do I see GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEn mold growing on the ledge...hahahahaha I say to the GM and call him to the window, he sees it and is shocked.....so very quickly the GM and I are talking about price to clean the hotel.....not a bad stay after all.!!!

So later that night we decide to get some dinner, we decided to goto Tijuana Flatt's a Mexican style chain around here, and maybe where you are as well, well as we flirted with the waitresses taking our order, they ask what we do, and I told here about all that we do and mentioned the tile cleaning, so she says HOLD ON I'll be back, she then goes and gets the GM of the store and he and I over dinner are now talking price as well, and we landed it......so I know believe that Chris is just great luck for me!!

Some events I am lucky, some not so much.

At the Tampa event I won a Vacuberm from Jerry at Sirocco, cool!

I also won a bucket sponsored from BioClean, Thanks Blaine! That bucket had a key in it for the skid drawing.

I am having a great time learning all the cool things about kitchen cleaning.

This class is Definately different from what I thought it would be mostly about. Cannot tell everything because that is what Joe is teaching for a class for a fee and I don't want to tell too much.

I am learning about selling which is probably my biggest weakness but with help I will be doing better when I get home.

There are many aspects to pressure washing like concrete (flatwork), Kitchen Vent/Hood Cleaning, Fleet Washing, Building/House Washing, Roof Cleaning, etc.... but this class is teaching me a whole lot more than what I thought it was going to be about.

Anyone that has a hot water system, gas-powered vacuum system and some vacuum surface tools can get into this. If you already do buildings, restaurants and anything that has hard floors this business is just an add-on service to your existing accounts.

I have talked to a few guys that were thinking about getting into this class but with scheduling conflicts they could not but were wanting to.

I really thought I had an idea what this class would be about but once we started talking yesterday and walked back through the Tampa event hotel kitchen and he showed me what we would be doing.......I really had no clue about it afterall. Wow! What I will be learning will definately be a great add-on service to what I do now.

I would highly recommend this class if you have the equipment or the capital to get more equipment as this will quickly pay for itself once you are selling the add-on jobs to your existing accounts or new accounts.

Maybe I should start touring the country giving out luck to everyone? hahahahaha

Thanks Larry for staying with me, it was fun.

Hahahahaha

That was a good one Michael.

Day 2

Greetings:

Well day 2 has come to an end and of course not without some twist and turns. We started the day with a huge Chinese buffet, and of course landed the carpets and exterior while we there, I have to take a little credit for this one, I actually had some prior contact with the owners, but they “lost” my card last time….well either way it is closed at $415.00 per month so as my hero Borat Sagdiyev would say “great success”!

Well never let it be said that the phone doesn’t ring for Chris, cause it does a lot, he fields calls all day long.

Well as usual Tony, you have chosen to go down the less traveled road, first you wanted Jerry and I to braid or mustaches together and now you want me to rub his belly, well that “road” is not only less traveled but NEVER traveled for me, for you my friend I support you and proudly will donate a few dollars to the GALC and I suggest that we all support our brother regardless.

So after out huge buffet gorge we proceeded to another walk through of another established facility, we did a carpet lesson and then I had Chris do a mock sales call with me as the GM this time, after a little coaching he made it through and I am certainly becoming more and more pleased as we go, and tomorrow I will do one more walk through for carpets, kitchen, bar areas and bath rooms, after that I will put Chris to the test and let him do a cold sale to a new customer and see what he’s really got, maybe a quick shot of vodka will help! I really enjoy Chris as a student, he has the drive and now he has the knowledge, and I think he will be an awesome salesman and a successful contract cleaner.

So the rest of the day we talked endlessly about sales and culture of restaurant GM’s, he soaked it all in and I questioned him periodically to see what he retained, and he did well, certainly better than I ever did remembering anything. He asks the great questions and makes them count, bravo Chris you are on the right track.

Later in the afternoon I had my family come meet us for dinner, which was great, and oddly enough it was another buffet, only this time it was Golden Coral, so all good, except that my luck charm didn’t produce a huge sale, almost made me want to leave him there.

On our way home we decided to go to the dog track to catch a few races, and I thought why not, I have the great Kazoo with me who will certainly pad my pockets with gold coins as he has done most of the week, but to no avail, and a dog actually keeled over during a race, so we hurried away to remove ourselves from blame.

So the day was concluding and we both agreed that we needed some soda, and didn’t want to spend $2.00 or more for a 16oz at the hotel so we decided to hit the 7-11 down the street, but little did either of us knew that some meth heads had the same plan, only they were really HITTING the place, they were robbing it, I kid you not we walked in and I saw a guy behind the counter ROBBING THE 7-11, so I turned around and said lets go, Chris looking disappointed that we would get no soda slowly turned around, BUT he was slow as crap, he didn’t see what I saw and just slowly moseyed across the parking lot as I was calling 911, I turned to Chris and said hurry run, and he responded, I’m coming I can’t run I have a rock in my shoe, holy crap! So called 911 while driving away, while we discussed what just happened I was shaken but none the worse for the ware.

So tomorrow wish Chris luck as we continue to make him a super salesman, I know he can do it!

Joe I meant to ask in Tampa about the carpet cleaning. Are you using the equipment on your rig to do it?or are you using a carpet cleaning unit?

I absolutely use the equipment on the rig, it is far superior to any and I mean any pre made carpet cleaning junk, i can clean with 2 Rotovac's or 3 wands with no problem, more then enough water and heat and always more then enough DEEP vacuum power, it is a real money maker for sure.

As well we can clean the outside and inside at the same time and make more $$ per hour, and thats what it is all about afterall !!!!!

Sometimes I bring good luck and sometimes no luck at all. hahahahaha

Tomorrow will be a great day I am sure!

I am learning a lot of great things and wish there was another person here today to ask some other great questions as I will benefit from those as well but today just me and that is ok.

Joe is teaching me a lot of things that I am doing wrong when dealing with people that I did not know I was doing which is great for me so I will not be holding myself back in ways that I don't even realize. Thanks Joe!

Joe is teaching me about selling which is probably my greatest weakness as a lot of you know but I am learning great things and I think that Joe should also teach a class on selling besides the floor cleaning class.

Like I said in the earlier post, I did not even have a clue to as much I would be learning, what a great suprise!

Thanks Joe!

Day 3

Greetings:

<O:p</O:p
Well here we are on day 3 of the Chris Chappell oddesy. Today we scored big again, landed 14 of 16 restaurants in a chain, we got them all to go for kitchens, coolers, bars and bathrooms quarterly and exteriors 3 X’s a month, it was a real fluke we just dropped in on the day that the district KM mgr and the district GM mgr were there, it was an absolute fluke, but that is what you get when you have the lucky Giggly Puff by your side. They decided to have us start immediately so we re- arranged our schedule and got to it. WE did a sample in the entry and they were hooked, see SAMPLES=$$$$$$$........but of course the question is , how do we get to do a sample in the first place...hmmmmmm.....and tomorrow we have a presentation with 14 more GM's at an area meeting, going to break Chris in with some light high stress holy crap its all or nothing sales meeings....wish him luck!!

Well the perfect streak had to come to an end, and it did half way through our first kitchen of the night, the battery died on the hot water machine and stopped the show all together. So off to Wal Mart at 1:30 we went, come back and wrong size, so back to wally world for the correct battery, so after a delay we got it done and Chris rocked at it and this kitchen was BAD!

A few pics are attached of the man in action, give him an atta’ boy, cause he is rocking at this!

And let’s just take a look at Chris’s new marketing, as we were approaching the Popeye for some lunch, we felt a bit “”uneasy”” about the neighborhood so Chris decided to bring the surface cleaner in with us, his thinking was, they will ask us what it is and we will give them a sample, but no takers on this trip, but good idea anyway.

A little earlier in the day, Chris asked me if there were many hacks around this area and WOW what appears but a hand painted sign, wow what quality, and the worst part was we saw another a little later in the day.:nono:

Tomorrow we will do another kitchen and the carpet cleaning lessons, so wish Chris well as he learns to increase his bottom line.

Last nite was a good nite for Restaurant training.

It was not as bad or as hard as I was imagining it would be, I have cleaned things way, way dirtier and worse but this is a food place so it could never be as bad as I have seen like on the outside of buildings or on waste trucks.

I learned a lot of great things before, during and after that cleaning. There is a lot of great things you can learn about this type of cleaning. Like I mentioned before, I really had no clue of what you can do when it comes to this. I had an idea but it was only a fraction of what you can learn to do.

The pictures will make some great before/after pics for the website and flyers and cards to send out.

Joe really knows his stuff!

Thanks Joe.

enjoying the versatility of a sweet Vacuum.

this is turning into a great thread !!
Have fun guys !
..and of course.. I'm glad you're enjoying the versatility of a sweet Vacuum. :)
That with a nicely adjustable pressure washer allows LOTS of versatility..
temperature, pressure, and multiple wands..
Joe's got a nice rig !
and quite a sence of humor..
Chris, I hope you like Don Rickles :jester:

Day 4

Greetings:

Well here we are again for the update that all have been calling for. Today 8/4/2010 started just how you would have thought; with a loud thud of holy crap we are tired smashing through our brains. We didn’t get to sleep till 6:30 am, it was a long night indeed, so after a solid 28 ½ minutes of sleep Chris’s bat phone was ringing again, and then the wakeup call we forgot to cancel, and then my phone ringing, and yea, we were awake again, so we were going to go to a sales meeting this morning but turned out, that we need not attend, they decided to just give us the account without the sales pitch for the other districts, so not a bad start.

So we talked about what the day would have in store and we decided to do a few sales calls so that Chris could get super secure with the presentation and methodology, our first stop was a customer that I had a few years ago, but sold off those accounts to another company, as it turns out the company I sold to was not doing them anymore so we got our sales faces on and preceded to get this one closed. Well the luck Giggly Puff strikes again, we got the carpets and exterior for a few locations and got top $$ at that, but what could I expect with the man by my side, it is like having a hit man with ya, just intimidating the customer, but it works. This time Chris just kind of glided along with the sale as I negotiated the sale, and closed it we did.

After a bit of where do we go next , I decided to bring Chris to the devils den, to a customer that I used to have, and had a real bad relationship with in the past, well he was on a conference call and we were told it would be a while, but I wanted to just go, cause I knew the history, BUT Chris insisted that we stay and try anyway, well we waited and waited all the time Chris telling me his Dr. Phil approach to sales, which I found amusing. So after a long wait the GM comes out, recognizes me and is just about to dismiss us till I told him we can clean his interior to perfection, he looked a bit perplexed and I looked a bit panicked, this guy is 6-5 or so and intimidating, so we chatted about our services and he asked if we could get a white film off his floors, I told him that yes indeed we could and discussed the particulars of what it is on the floors and told him that I see it all the time and have the answer, he looked pleased if not anxious. Even Chris piped in with some info and away we were, selling away. It got really good when he told us that this was not only a problem at his location but a companywide issue with a vendor’s product and the vendor was abandoning them with no solution. He then said that he was definitely going to let us get his location and that the company engineer would be contacting me shortly to discuss a solution, ILIKE, I LIKE, we will get at least the closest 35-50 stores and probably more. Way to go Chris, if you didn’t stop me from leaving we would be less that account.

So the good luck Chris machine rolls on. Let’s all give Chris some encouragement when he gets back to Texas, and hope that he continues his streak.

Chris hit me with a joke that I just didnt get.....maybe some of you guys can help me understand....his joke was ""what do you call a person that has failed so miserably at life that he cant even become a roof washer in the Tampa market ?""

A HOOD CLEANER

I have noticed a peculiar thing about Chris, his ability to make ice melt just by going near it, I suppose that this is due to his 40 year love affair with salt, he ordered lunch with a side of salt, and instead of ice water he got salt water, what’s that about?

Tomorrow Chris flies back home leaving this great hotel that we got for a STEAL!! This place is really great, ultra contemporary, restaurant, bars, pool everything you would want in a top end hotel, including a general manager from the middle east that has offered many insults and ongoing poking at me, but it is all good, after all, he is paying me next week, not me paying him, and Chris seems to find him awfully funny, often bringing the GM’s comments up later in a teasing way that just gets me going on a rant about him

And after all that I have given Chris he has so callously offered me a bottle of “”grout cover upper crap”” oh man Chris your killing me guy!!
Chris and I have agreed that I will be his agent and I will negotiate all further allocations of his time, need a sales machine I got one for rent, going to Vegas I got your winning partner, having a bad divorce give me a call I’ll send in the great equalizer. Overdue taxes I got your guy, rates are no n negotiable but fair.

After a solid day of sales we realized that we still had a battery problem that needed to be addressed, so we hunted for the battery and traveled all around Sarasota to get it. After that is when my life hits the crapper, cause all week all I have been hearing about is this G-dam cheesecake from Publix ((thanks Larry)) so Chris spots a Publix’s and insist that we go to get the cake, and that is when you really get to see him charm and sell, he had this chick in the bakery charmed up big time, well the truth of the matter was that he didn’t want to buy the whole cake and was trying to get her to cut a whole one in half, he would be dangerous in a bar full of women!! With the cake in hand we decided to call it a day and retire to the hotel for some well deserved rest.

So tonight we will review the program and get him ready to hit the Texas market with a load of knowledge and encouragement.

And on a side note, you guys have got to stop calling him and telling him about your newly acquired equipment, holy crap, if he is not careful he will have 1 if not 2 of EVERY product known to the free world of pressure washing, Chris must really believe in the saying “he who dies with most toys win”

Once again I hope that we all encourage Chris on his new adventure and wish him luck as he sets sales records and wins the trust of customers far and wide.

Good luck Chris, it has been a pleasure working with you, and I know that you will be a great success. And don’t forget to keep focused and excel at what you do.

This blog is actually going to continue for at least a while, while I continue to help Chris via tele and e mail, so we will see how it goes.:wave2:
