How to grease and filter the general pump hammerhead surface cleaner

I just picked up a gp hammerhead 20" surface cleaner and unlike the display model, mine doesn't have the grease port on the top of the swivel. The instructions said to grease every 200 hrs of use. I've read on here that some recommend greasing that swivel every day its used. Anybody know what's going on? Does mine have some upgraded swivel that needs greased less? How do I grease mine since it doesn't have the port?

Another question...I want to add a filter to the sc so the nozzles don't clog, is the best spot right above the swivel? Is everyone else filtering their surface cleaners?

Take a pic of your swivel. They used to have a BE style swivel on them. Then again, BE has changed the swivel design on the 16" floater...maybe it carried over?

The filter is fine on the swivel inlet. You might want to think about putting a 90° street ell on the swivel first. The filter will stick up high, and may cause problems getting under benches and such. Be sure to use a hydraulic fitting if you go with the 90.

We run our Hamer Heads hard. I have replaced the brush skirt on 4 of ours this year. Wore them out. I love being able to grease them. I hope they dont eliminate the grease fitting or I will have to drill my own. For the money Hammer Heads are great!

so that's that??? I can't grease it? The instructions say to, maybe I should call and ask. James, was that "drill your own" comment tongue in cheek or can that be done? If so how?

Yes John, that's that. Drilling it for a grease fitting isn't a good idea. For one, the outlet for the hole has to be exactly between the two bearings. Secondly, if it's non-greaseable, the bearings are sealed instead of open sided, so the grease won't have anywhere to go.

The only thing you can do is replace it with a greaseable swivel.

That was an off the cheek coment.

Is there a swivel that you would recommend to replace the factory swivel with?

A friend has a couple of the 20" or 18" hammerheads and the swivels went out (they had the grease fittings) and he wants to replace the swivels. I was thinking of making the Whisper Wash new style swivels fit along with the aluminum spray bar. I have some of the Classics and a Big Guy so I like that brand of swivel.

What would you recommend to swap out the Hammerhead swivel with Russ?

A BE greaseable swivel or a Steel Eagle Talon III.

Hey Russ, Guess who! What's the ticket on these swivels? I have to decide if the 1 year $50 or 2 year $80 - extended replaceable warranty is worth it!

Do you think part #16 on this illustration has to be removed for the swivel to be greased? I wonder why these instructions say to grease every so often?!?!

Does your swivel have a grease fitting on it?

Take it back and exchange it for one you can grease. I have a Whirl away and I grease it after every time I use it. Grease will chase out any water that may find it's way to the bearings.
